So do we need to get together before launch, and if so when are you guys available?
I think it might be a good idea
I can do Saturdays anytime but the next two Sunday mornings are taken by family events
or we could do dinner somewhere
I'm likely in SoMD this weekend or next.
If it is easier I can meet Marty somewhere during the week to ease his concerns about traveling with an old guy.
We can stay at Dorito's first choice cabin in Chibougamau if we are comfortable paying a bit higher rate (essentially pay for two nights and only use one).
"For two nights, 4 people the cost is 228.11 taxes included"
One alternative is the Hotel Nordic which has rooms however the rate is not clear yet:
"Hi , the price its 136.83 tx inclusfor 1 rooms"
so I'm trying to get clarification. I assume this is $136.83 for two rooms but it could be per room.
A third alternative is Hotel Chibougamau. I've not heard back from them yet...I may call or ping them again.
somehow I doubt that you are older than I.
my granddaughter thinks I am older than everyone.
you should be concerned with the traveling with an old guy
Blaster trip planning details are better then most guide books.
my trans lab trip a couple years ago was effort less because of the knowledge I collected by reading/follow that thread,
I am so glad I came cross this one as James Bay taiga is on my trip list
now I need read this from the last 18 pages
Thanks Sailer but it really is a team effort with Dorito.

Cover's are in for tomorrow night
Keith....I will bring the comms to dinner if you are coming.
This is a great idea.....We are in.
Stoneys doesn't do reservations for less than 12. So first one there tonight, put our name on the wait list.
Party of six at six
1) I sent out printable maps tonight.
2) Also, when you are loading the GPX files onto your GPS please let me know if you get an error message on one file. I got one as I was uploading a batch, but when I went back to troubleshoot it, I couldn't replicate it.
So keep your eyes out, and drop me the file name that fails.
So we decided to get together and do a little "get to know each other" and a little bit of planning at a local restaurant on the water in Broomes island Maryland.
While we were waiting on the others Dorito gave me the "seriously your taking a picture of me" look.
The food was good and the company was great and we also got to watch boats come into and out of the marina.
And of course a little food porn...expect to see a lot more of this when the trip starts.
Some beer battered fish.
And of course dessert...they called this one Banana cheesecake and it was mighty tasty!
I am not sure what this was but it looked darn good as well.
And it didn't really matter what the drink was that you ordered because they all came in plastic cups.
I think we worked through what may be minor details at this point but none the less we have a better idea of what's coming. Hell, we even started a plan for going to South America next year....how awesome would that be!!!!!
Wish I would have found this sooner...:ddog
so many rides - so little time
This 'new' link/ride from Houlton ME south could be substituted in whole or part for the current return ride from Forestville QC depending on the schedule/weather etc.
My estimate is 260 miles from Forestville to Houlton ME with a 60 minute ferry ride across the St. Lawrence river/seaway.
You have choices......
if we are on schedule we arrive in
Forestville Tuesday evening (9.3.13) and again
Forestville Wednesday evening (9.4.13) with
"US Border" Thursday evening (9.5.13) and
Randolf VT Friday evening (9.6.13) to start the PD trail.
1) sub Thursday's ride (Forestville to US Border) with (Forestville to Houlton ME-plus some travel time)....particularly if we got the first ferry from Forestville across the river.....
2) sub Wednesday's ride with Forestville to Houlton ME and then start the new route.
FWIW The ride from Forestville to US Border on the current plan is similar/same as the route I took to start the Trans Lab a few years ago and it is un remarkable except for the part along the St. Lawrence.
ordered my knobbies for the trip a month ago from Bob's. the front arrived. the rear they now say will be shipped Friday 16 Aug. Last time I asked they said the 9th.
unless i can find a rear tire i will be doing this on battlewings:eek1
with my talent should be no problem
Motorcycle superstore shipped to my door within 48 hrs.
PS As a back-up to the back-up plan. We have a 1/2 used Heidi takeoff that will most likely get you through the trip.
