I used to run no more than 3K kms in my crf 250l with both it's stock 250 and the cbr300 engine in it because the oil looked black by then. If you were purely riding on the road it would be a different matter.
As you said will have to wait for oil anlysis for the crf450L.

    Yes Al. 8000mi !
I seem to recall that the 690 has a similar schedule but with a high spec 10/60 oil and deeper sump

$14k?? Surely that’s the on road cost with full rego.

I’m thinking rec reg for $11k is more the domain of the 250 4T enduros these days. H wouldn’t save much by deleting the ADR gear from the 450L, as that seems to be how it’s homologated ‘round the world ex-factory.

It would be easy enough to rec reg the L with all that gear on though, then just remove what you won’t need. No RWC needed but couldn’t see it any lower than 13k out the door, unless dealers over-order ‘em and they’re sitting around next winter. That figure puts it roughly between the KTM 350 and 501 by my reckoning...and a bit below the 300TPI. Looks like it could make a great high country mount for summer in stripped down trim!

Rather than deleting all the road legal gear from the L they should have imported the X alongside the L with the accompanying Price reduction and as a RecReg only option.

Yep, they should have, but I remember when the CRF450X first came out and Honda said that they weren't going to import the XR400 and XR650R because people who want them can buy the 450X now.:lol3

Pretty comprehensive review - no hype

Consensus seems to be that they've nailed it

And I would be surprised considering the Africa Twin tank was supposed to be out months ago, but I'm still waiting...:D

I've heard that some people are running CRF450R tanks on them.

I read in one of the L blurbs the top rails are slightly wider apart, from memory it said for stability on the road, if that was true i figered it would affect tank fit from another model

    Any see that ?

My guess is that’s what DB is doing

There’s no way Safari could have made a 450l tank so quick

Yes, read that and also how it looked in the shop compared to the MX bike. Will be interesting to see the design of the bigger tanks to fit.
