Thanks, it's a tough gig but someone has to do it.:evil

Thanks, Alberta is an easy place to find great photos and great riding. Just trying to match the camera's eye to the mind's eye.

So much variety of landscape to choose from in our area. I need to get your backroad to Drumheller route. Haven't shot around there yet.

Lee, well done! Looks like a fun trail. I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a GoPro. I have been holding off the last couple of years, but there are times when video beats photos hands down. Besides, who wants to stop to take photos when you are having so much fun!

    Cheers, David

I did a little exploring around town and east along the river today, just to see the devastation for myself. The river is scary fast, and no doubt scouring the ground to the rock along it's path. The true destruction won't be known until the water finally recedes. There will be a very new landscape along the river and a few less golf courses to be sure.

A day later and the waters are receding. It is windy and the sun is out, both very good things for southern Alberta.

This was yesterday by the Ivor Strong bridge.

South of town, I went to check on my favorite river ford. The water two days ago must have been insane!
    IMG_0046.jpg
This was taken from the high water mark, some sixty feet up the road.

The water tore down the barb wire fencing and pushed over the shrubs, leaving silt and debris behind, but from far enough away with a big lens it looks nice. Very deceiving and dangerous.

    Stay safe everyone!

Thanks for posting the pics. Such a devastating flood! We lived in the Calgary area for 11 years, loved the City and the people. Hope all returns to normal soon for everyone.

Your favourite river ford was always a nice back road that we used often.

    Cheers

It's interesting to see this road from a bike perspective.
I race a rally car and have done that road many, many times as part of the Rocky Mountain Rally.
Will have to make a trek down there on my bike one day.

Any suggestion as to the best way to end up on hwy 5, in Alta, via big bike, and backroads?
The track from Blairmore would be my starting point, yes?
    Thank you.

A few guys from the site went up to Burntstick Lake for Saturday night. The weather said 60% chance of showers in the evening, well let me tell you.....

    IMG_0050.jpg

And then that 60% became 100% and 2" of torential rain came down, Oh and some marble sized hail.

Misty morning start, a lot earlier than some would have liked....

This section of riverbed fared well due to it's rocky nature.
