As the Story goes; (tongue firmly in cheek) a mysterious Harley Rider shared the secret of its existence with Ian(formerly)InCalgary who then divulged it to me, who then shared it with the ADVers of the world. To this day if you spot it through the fog perpetually masking it from passing traffic I implore you to quickly detour in before it fades from site once more.

But seriously, I thank those that preceded me to the Cinnamon Bear and sent me into its door for the first time. My senses thank you, if not my waistline!

You commented in the Calgary thread about idle hands, me without a bike. I felt it was time well wasted to start from the beginning and go through the files mostly chronologically and fill in the blanks left by the photobucket debacle. When I initially was held hostage by those pirates I went through and did what I could at the time to rebuild some resemblance of what it had been. The problem was that in directly uploading versus using a hosting site I was limited to four photos per post. It really didn't work with the text but was better than nothing.
Since then I have become better at post processing albeit not at the level Pictor is, but I try.

Over the winter, and four photos at a time, I'm going to continue along the time line until the history of the Orange obsession is re-chronicled . There may even be previously un-released "B" sides in for the stout hearted and those old enough for that reference.

    IMG_0741.jpg

In the original posts there were videos as well but YouTube seemed to have a failure to understand that I was not making money on the channels and despite always crediting the artist and song in my video, kept muting or deleting videos because of said music. Copyrighted music is normally allowed under the "fair use" clause when the user is not profiting nor claiming ownership of that usage. I was tired of the fight so I Nuked my YouTube channel. They have enough people willing to create content for them, they did not need my help any longer.
I saved all 185 of the Videos but at this point have not found an innocuous hosting site that will leave them unmolested.
    Perhaps one day.
In the meantime the posts will be more photography purest.

As someone who was relatively late to the party and didn't get to see all the pictures, I am glad you are doing this and look forward to seeing them.

My vote in favour of your continuing the photo walk down memory lane.
I must say the 990 is much better looking than the 10/11/1290s. (Sorry). As for the 790/390; well, mother always told me "if you have nothing nice to say,....."

Edit : What I really mean is "that 990 really IS a good looking bike". And thanks for showing us more of it.

The 950/990 were a love it or hate it bike looks-wise. I was in the love it camp. The newer bikes took a long time to grow on me and I prefer the 1190/1090 headlight to the new system on the rest of the line. I do honestly appreciate the lines of the 790/890/390 from the side.

Hey but looks are one thing and on the other hand they all are performers at the head of their classes.

The 990 was and is a hard act to follow!

More reminiscing to come, stay tuned. This time only the bikes out in the Alberta landscape with notes on where and when. Using the keep it simple rule.
    Remastered for your viewing pleasure.

You are correct. As far as off road went anyway. This is not including a Honda 50 way back and borrowed dirt bikes.
Went from an FZ-1 Sport tourer to a KLR to the 990. Lots of bikes before that FZ as well.

Ahh the Cinnamon Bear. In grad school between, 2009 and 2011, I worked with the Southern Rockies Watershed Project although I was affiliated with the University of Lethbridge. SRD had set the project up with accommodation and garage space in their compound in Coleman, and I spent a lot of time there.

The Bear fueled many field days, particularly during winter fieldwork. Nothing like taking a break, sitting down in the snow, cracking the thermos and opening up a mildly frozen pastry.

    Thanks for the memories @Lycan1

My comments are in reference to your photos and as such, looks are all that matters. (Well, that plus the bike's [and rider's] ability to get to that location). Some of which you can't (legally) ride to anymore. Why don't they offer us beautiful bikes anymore? Why can't we ride wherever we want? Where did the Alberta Advantage go? Uh, pardon this old fart while I rant on for an hour or two, .....

OK, I'm back again; I've spared you most of my whines.

The 990 was the only KTM I seriously considered buying (until the 790). Not for its appearance of course but that didn't hurt its prospects. When the 950 appeared, it was in its own subclass really, nothing comparable to its abilities. Big Orange has maintained its lead ever since. Now I hear grumblings that their bikes are too narrowly focussed and generalists like the T7 make more sense for 90 percent of us in the real world. Plus the Yamaha's better looking.:hide
