..just don't confuse the white dome (tag) in the background with another famous local landmark..

Good tag. I’ve never been there, but I think I know the dome from pictures.

Ok so so I want to play along... But as a nOOb, I don't know which of the last pictures I'm supposed to find? The lake, Carlsbad Raceway Business Park, or the sad tree?

There are only a couple of big observatories in San Diego area, and it took just a few minutes online to find the spot using the clues TemeculaTim provided.

I’ve never been there as it’s a pretty big ride for me, but at the first window of opportunity I’ll head down if it’s still available on that day.

Yes it is a dome.....but its not what you think it is. FAA AFS JSS and NORAD are acronyms that may help you solve the clue.

There are three main reasons why I don't go get any tags:
    1. The main reason is that a lot of them are too far away from me ( I'm in the east Inland Empire) to go get and come back in one day.
    2. Mrs. Trails and I have a side-by-side and a toy hauler and we try to go out at least one weekend a month. We're teachers and we spend most of our vacations either boon-docking out in the dez or up in the mountains with the RV and the buggy (Yamaha YXZ1000r for those that are into off road toys). That takes up much of our free time.
    3. I just don't care to play the silly guessing game of which this current tag is a perfect example.

The last tag that looked like fun (to me) and I had the time to go get was out in the Palm Springs area (?) at an airport. I actually planned on getting it, but someone beat me to it. Which has happened more than once, actually.

One of my simple pleasures over the past couple decades has been to get up on a Saturday morning, pick a city an hour or so away that has relatively squiggly lines on the map to get there. Ride there, find a 4 or 5 Yelp star mom and pop cafe and have breakfast. Then ride home and enjoy the rest of my weekend.

I do like this thread but the boundaries are larger than many countries on the planet and the 10-12 hour commitment is just not worth it. I can't be the only one who thinks this way, because the easy to find and relatively near civilization tags get snatched up pretty quickly. So, I mostly just check in on this thread every now and then, shrug my shoulders and go about my regular business.

If I ever do get a tag and post the next one I'll tell you where it is and some near by points of interest to make it worth while. I'll leave the "Where's Waldo?" and epic journeys of self-discovery to the Millennials. I got other stuff to do.

    Rant off. Carry on.
