It looks like I should be able to make it. You think Eel River would have issue with Sierra sticking out of my riding jacket? No problems at a Lost Coast Brewery and a few other places. The waitresses usually go gaga over her. (Why didn't I get a foofoo dog when I was single? :baldy)
Why haven't we heard from BrewMike who obviously likes beer and started this thread?
    Mike! Show yourself man!

Sounds like Forest Route 1... is closed !
Sheriffs had to get a Helicopter to get somebody out from there.

Below is from Lost Coast Outpost.

A snow cat was deployed on Monday morning from the area of Hwy 36 in Mad River while units responded via 4-wheel drive truck from Hwy 299, Titlow Hill. The Sheriff’s Office snow cat was unable to continue due to snow levels at approximately mile marker 44 on Route 1. Deputies were unable to go beyond mile marker 20 from Hwy 299 due to snow levels, and snow drifts were too much to push through from the Hwy 36 side.

PG&E was contacted on Monday and assistance was requested for use of their snow cat. They responded at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The lengthy response for the PG&E snow cat was due to road conditions. Deputies, with the assistance of PG&E, responded to the area of mile marker 30 of Route 1. They searched the area described by the reporting party throughout the night and were unable to locate the subject.

At about 11:30 a.m. the CHP helicopter arrived at the command station and met with deputies. At about 12:23 p.m. the CHP helicopter located the rescuee. Due to low fuel levels, the helicopter had to refuel in Arcata before it would be able to extricate the rescuee. The CHP helicopter returned to the scene and hoisted the rescuee from her location.

Lots of people er... 'living' out in the woods now.
People without knowledge of what a... 'normal' winter brings at high elevation.

When you can't go thru with a snow cat... that's some good snow.
Lots of years you couldn't go through FH1 in a 4wd pickup till June.
Big snowdrifts in the east-facing gullies.

I hope I can catch some of y'all if you do another. I'm not local but I do spend a lot of time in your neck of the woods.

Here's FR1 back in Mid April. We rode up from Mad River but had to turn back after a while. No helicopter needed. :lol3

Yeah. Snowshoes exist,as do X-Country skis. A person heading out in winter should have some sort of plan other then a really expensive rescue.

Apparently, she had a male companion with her. He hiked out 12 miles through the snow to get cell service.
Lots of people don't know how much it snows up there... in a 'good' year.

In the early 60's Horse Mtn ski resort was the last Ski resort operating in the US... it closed after July 4th.
That was a year we had a massive snowfall... Kneeland was white with new-fallen snow on Memorial Day.
Looking out the window at my house... remember how the mountains were white. (Yeah, I was just a kid.)

Had lunch at Honeydew "No-Brand" burger bar yesterday. Cheese/Bacon burger was... 'SUPERB'.
Bacon was properly cooked... firm... with a bit of crispy texture. Burger was done just right too !

Mega-potholes on the Lost Coast road are gettn' deeper. I took the 690 to handle 'em.
Expect to see some of them get deep enough to reach 'magma' soon, maybe start erupting.
Some of the 'slides' on the mountains are getting deeper too. Dunno.
County doesn't have a lot of money... until they start taxing pot production.
