Yes, this! There's a turn on 96 that says "Mt Ashland 23 Miles." I did an out-n-back on the Mt Ashland road from I-5 over the past weekend. It's 8 miles of nice pavement and turns to dirt right after. I presume that's the other end of the 23 miles from 96. How much of the 23 miles is paved?

On our route, there wasn't a sign... it was really a 'back way'.

I (and others) have been trying to recover that route we took (well, long ago).
Have changed computers and GPS in those years.

Route we took soon turned to dirt and stayed that way until well into the Ashland ski area.
Route went by some old pioneer buildings up way up there in beautiful alpine meadows.
Had (have ?) some photos of that old structure, but I can't find those photos either !

Am continuing to see if I can find 'em.

We did Dinsmore thru Hettenshaw valley to Ruth and Wild Mad to Wildwood down Hayfork creek to 3 fuel in Hayfork lunch in Hyanpom on the hill then up Pelletreau a couple weeks ago. Road was in great shape. Hot. Tar lines over close to Wildwood on Wild Mad rd are really slippery.

Hey all, just moved to Petrolia from the South Bay and I'm looking for some friends to ride with on the weekends. I haven't even checked if there's any OHV parks near by, but I'd really love to ride some single track on my XR400, or just some good back roads in Humboldt. Seems like a lot of people in Petrolia aren't friendly to driving down a lot of the roads here as they cross private property quite a bit.

You are in pot grower central,so gotta watch it on backroads. If it starts looking Really Sketchy you may even be near a meth lab so its good to be careful. There are endless great roads near you though.

I've made a few friends, there is a higher number of friendly people than unfriendly, but even the friendly people don't want anyone coming down the roads. I'm a teacher, so I'm here to stay and will find a niche in the community, but until everyone knows who I am and lets me ride around, I'll be looking elsewhere in Humboldt county for riding.

Damn. Ive seen a total of about 2 people around when I go through there.
They close schools around here in a heartbeat if there's not enough to support it.

I believe there are certain funds for schools in remote areas to stay open. There's a minimum number of kids, but right now the school has more than normal (Yeah, my 11 kids is a big class for 6-8th grade).

Yup. Black Lassic is a good loop. Black Lassic, Red Lassic, Watts Lake, Zenia.
Couple 'side trips' in there... and a couple extra ways down to the 36-Zenia road.

If you haven't done it yet... there is another way over to Cecileville... it comes right out in
the 'downdown' part of Cecileville. Nice road through the pines. If you turn right at Cecileville...
end of the paved road starts that way.

There is also another road that comes out at the Forks of the Salmon.
Up at the top, you turn downhill... probably better coming up from the Forks though.

What platform are you using for a GPS ?

It was Really NICE up on top not like I thought it would be...?

I am still testing The Samsung Tad A w/ Locus map pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=menion.android.locus.pro&hl=en_US

Still learning but I must say this is the best thing I have done as far as GPS.... So easy to see where you want to go and route..Lots of stuff you can do.

It worked flawlessly and I never touched the other NAV IV .....:jjen
