salmon1.jpg 20191007_151112_resized.jpg 20191007_135522_001_resized (1).jpg Went on a little ride yesterday also. 326 miles on asphalt only. Didn't leave until after 11:00 am. Eureka, Willow Creek, Hoopa, Whitchipec, Orleans, Forks of the Salmon, Cecilville, Callahan, Weaverville, and back to Eureka. Managed to take three pics.

PSA for anyone under a rock:

PG&E might be shutting off power in Humboldt overnight.

Charge your batteries and load your guns.

The line of people getting gas at Costco is to Broadway Street right now.

As of this morning 10/9/19 after the news and PG&E both saying power WOULD start to be shut off at midnight in more and more counties, and panic stricken people buying and storing this and that, nothing happened they didnt shut any power off. Im glad I dont work for PG&E.

It's pretty dark and quiet in Eureka. Might go out to the trailer and have coffee.

I’m kind of curious about how much water storage the different municipalities have
I doubt any of them have all the generators to filter and pump drinking water let alone the lift pumps for sewage

HCSD sent out an alert yesterday asking for residents to use as little water as possible during this phase, mainly for sewage related issues. Eureka city has generator powered sewage lift stations but I don't think they can run at full capacity on generator power.

It's now off in some outskirts of Chico, maybe all of Oroville will be off.
Which is scary. It doesnt take much to get the crazier denizens of Oroville out on a rampage. There has been an average of 4 fires started every day in and around Oroville all summer, they are wild over there.

Power is off to maybe 250,000 customers now, clear down in San Jose etc.

My generator is getting a workout between my house and a couple neighbors. It sounds like it is official. At least three days without power. I'm going to have to find some gasoline

Yup. On generator here. Run it about every 6 hours.
Will leave it off from 10 at night till 8 in the AM.
Supporting the refer and the freezer, charging electronics,
and now running the computer (for a bit).

Generator has taken about 1.5 gallons today. Have a 10 gallon reserve.

Thanks. It's actually been pretty chill but it's early on and people are still on their best behavior. It'll degenerate to a real shit show in about a day.

Nothing now. I was called in overnight and saw the power began returning around 1100pm in gradual waves. By 430am the "on wave" was through all of the metro area. Kind of cool to be driving down Broadway and the street lights are illuminating block by block as you pass by.

But I believe the whole country was without power during the shutoff.

Meef, Thanks for heeding the call. I ignored mine and instead chose to stay close to my neighborhood. After nightfall all was quiet on my street except the soft hum of my generator powering the refer, a lamp, and the TV until 9:30 pm. A stroll up and down the quiet street with the dog and then to bed.

Still no power in Cottonwood. Will be 48 hours tonight. Calling this a public safety shutoff is beyond a joke, it's an insult. They should call it what it is- saving their ASSets. I'm 10 miles west of Cottonwood and we have seen some pretty good gusts but there has been mostly very light, pretty much normal wind. Went for a nice putt this afternoon on my GS. Going past Whiskeytown the lake looked almost calm. By contrast Trinity Lake had whitecaps, Lewiston, Weaverville, and Hayfork all had much more wind than at home and they have had no shutoffs. Everyone out my way is on a well. Some of us have generators but many people do not and quite a few of my neighbors are almost as old as me.

I am training a new pup to ride in my sidecar. Don't know if she will ever love it as much as my dog Meatloaf did but so far so good. I made a post about it in the Hacks section if anyone is interested https://advrider.com/f/threads/peaches-gets-a-sidecar.1410823/
