As my wife and I noted prior to moving, at least we will never see snow again unless we choose to!

I may attend... what sort of timeframe are you looking at?

Nothing set yet. Mike will be headed down from Redway while I'm here in the Cove. We could meet at my place or the store.

I just left a message at Mike's house. I asked him to leave a post in this thread for what he'd like to do. The message that he left with me sounded like he was still good to go. If anyone wants to start here, (just a couple miles west of the north end of Chamise Mountain Rd. on Upper Pacific. House furthest to the south with a Unimog in the yard.) that would be fine. No times mentioned yet, but I'm up and ready by 7 and don't care if it's hours later.
Like any Usal Rd. ride, don't expect fast from Mike or I. He is going to try a Grom and I have my dog in my chest carrier.
I now have my rotopax mounted. I have a 4.5 gallon tank on the bike so if anyone (maybe riding a Grom?) has gas worries- don't. I will have extra non ethanol with me.

You plan on running down Chemise to usal and then to Rt 1 and back, or what?

Mike called. I am leaving my place around 8:45, getting gas at the general store, and meeting him at the four corners at 9:30. (Where Chemise meets Usal.) From there we ride to Usal beach and back. He's not into 1 or 101 with a Grom. Maybe head to Needle Rock when we get back to the four corners.
Not a big ride, but scenic.

I may be there. Unsure. That's...so....early... for me. I'll try to be at the general store before you get there, at 8:45. If I'm not there by the time you are ready to roll out, don't wait on me.

I'll poke a little and get to the store at 9AM or a touch later. It doesn't take 1/2 hour to get to the four corners from there.

Thanks for getting this together Mike. As always, a pleasure to do some riding with you.
Mark, it was good to meet another fresh eastern transplant. Them folks back east just don't know what they're missing. I hear the Polar Vortex might be back this coming winter. That could wake a few of them up.
Both of you- feel free to stop by again some time. I'm usually here. Bring the wife if they'd like.

You are a brave man riding a tiny wheeled Grom through those wash outs.

Yepper, good to meet you both. Hope to have more rides in the future. Mike, good call on the Peg Room. That place was awesome. Plus...free bumper stickers! Tom, good talking with you and fun riding with you.

How you doin'? Passed two old VW vans on Usal. Not exactly proper travel implements for Usal but they made it through.

No idea why this is on Rt 1 (it's tape), but it seemed hilarious. The bike is some dude from Santa Rosa who we passed a few times, he and some buddies are scouting for an upcoming street-based dual sport:

The Peg Room. Look behind Tom (center). Those are apparently vacationing monks....?

There are a couple monasteries down in the south county... one is off Whitethorn road.
Think there is another one too... dammit, can't remember where.

Hmmm... GROM needs a better bash plate !

Usal road had grading/cat work a few years ago.
Condition is really nice now... used to be it had big some big ruts/sinkholes
and a real good mudhole at the top.

Sigh, closing the road in the winter prevents 4WD's from 'enjoying' themselves.
    Oh well.

Thanks for the pics. MeefZa. It was great meeting you ,and riding! A few water bars and culverts could go along way on that road.!

Ive heard rumors twice now about closing Usal road in general, this may be BS I dunno.

That tape on the pavement on the south end is new, wasnt there 2 weeks ago.

Last time we rode Usal a guy in a big cab over camper/truck was driving it,then we met him in Honeydew after he drove King's Peak in his wallowing big camper rig. Seemed to be having fun.

I would be fine with letting Usal road turn into a trail, but keep it open, maybe just for bikes!

I think 4X4's are whats making those big ruts,it gets real slick in there when wet and they just have a hey-day ditch digging and sliding around, but usal is mostly closed now when wet. Sierra Pacific Logging has gated every road they own around here due to 4X4 mud bogging mostly.
