Let's start a new thread for Speedway.
Here's a heat from Cardiff, Wales:

The US National Championship gets a couple thousand people in the stands, Cardiff gets around 50,000:

I love that they're traveling again to Australia, almost went last year, but pulled the plug due to workload.

Wish they'd give a round to the US before Hancock retires, which, to me seems sooner than later, broken shoulder, 46yrs old, but he's the current #1 plate holder, so obviously got it done. I think he'll be back one more year, if he is, I'm going to try and go to Europe again for a GP.

Been following and working around Speedway in SoCal since the late '70s.
Ventura on tuesday, San Bernardino wednesday, Ascot thursday, Costa Mesa friday and Bakersfield or Victorville saturdays.
In 2016 we went to the Cardiff round, caught the races at Swindon and Somerset the week prior, man what a difference.
The races at Swindon and Somerset were unusual to us because they don't have anyplace to sit! They all just stand on a hillside.
The SGP round at Cardiff was incredible, fans from all over Europe singing and dancing in the streets hours before the event.
We're planning to hit a round next summer, maybe Poland.

Evidently there are statues of Speedway racers in Poland, they are maniac about their Speedway! Gorsgow was a packed crowd with jumping up and down and banner waving and hotties preening for the camera, quite a show.
Most Americans couldnt identify what a Speedway race is. Dudek is having a heck of a 1st season,Lindback can be spectacular on his night!

Yeah, it really is a great season this year.

Pedersen's been out, doubt he's coming back this season.

Hancock out with a shoulder injury

Doyle riding with a plated up foot

Palwicki (777) has a broken leg

Iversen broken shoulder, out for now

It really is anyone's year, top 4 separated by like 10 points with 84 points left to race for. As they say "gutted" for Hancock, but I feel he'll be back next year with a gimme spot from the FIM. I think it's the first year he won't have re qualified on his own merit since inception of the series in 1995.

I've been going to speedway since I was in diapers (1984 season). As a kid used to prep a couple bikes, wash/polish/tires/chains etc etc for ackroyd. Made carbon fiber parts for lee cohen, that were used on rob pfetzing's bikes, also had them on Eddie castros bikes in the late 90's Rode for 2.5 seasons, mainly at San Bernadino, when it was being run by venegas as AMS, arrowhead motor speedway. Broken knee, injured back, and I was done, but I had my fun.

I missed the "glory days" of so cal speedway, I mean, I remember ascot, speedway USA in Victorville, a couple at glen helen, but Ventura and Bakersfield were either long gone, or we just didn't go

These days we get Costa Mesa on a severely limited schedule, industry has a great schedule, but it's hard to get out to on a Wednesday since I work all the way in Costa Mesa. Then there's the smaller shows, Perris, Ventura, and Santa Maria. Haven't made a Santa Maria race, but I do get to Perris and Ventura.

Wonder if @radbrad511 has any insights into next season at Costa Mesa yet?

This season is winding down and I will be out of town for the national, it will be the first one I missed in 20 years.

My Dad would take us to Ventura to watch speedway in the early 70's. The 'commotion by the ocean'.
He had owned a Jawa when he was younger. Larry Huffman was the announcer.
    Anyone remember Bobby Shwartz?

Yeah, Bobby Schwartz is still racing speedway at 61 years of age, and actually, he still mixes it pretty well with the young kids when he wants to

When I was 16, I'd cut school early, hop a train to riverside, get a ride to the track where my dad had my bike. And Bobby would bring me back to Costa Mesa and drop me off since he lived near.

I feel, that on any given night, if he wanted to, he could absolutely smoke the field.

I bought my first bike from his Dad, they owned a Suzuki dealership.
I think we were in the same high school, but didn't hang out in the same crowds.
Agree that he could show flashes of brilliance at times.
I loved the smell of castor oil in the evenings!

If by brilliant at times you mean a 2x world pairs champion, multi time national champion, and pretty much running the tables for years at Costa Mesa, then yeah, he's brilliant at times.

I'm talkin right now, 61 years old, if he feels froggy he can still hang with the best of them.

Uh....I'd like to say that was me being sarcastic, but it's more a case of mouth-insert foot.
I had no idea he had such a successful career. I only saw him at Ventura when he was first staring out.
    My apologies.

No need to apologize, I'd gathered from your previous post that you haven't been a "follower of the sport" in recent years. Just wanted to give a recap of his "flashes of brilliance"

The US has held 9 Speedway world championships among 5 riders (Milne, Penhall, Ermolenko, Hamill, and Hancock). Tied with England behind Sweden, Denmark, and New Zealand. Not too bad...
