My friends lives near there in Eldorado Hills. Next time I head that way, I'll look to check this area out.

    Thanks

Neat bridge. Do you know when they plan to replace it? It would be great to check it out before it's gone...

    Thanks

    @svo_jon

From what I understand, construction slated to begin 2022. The old bridge is going to stay for pedestrian only.

Enjoying your RR, I have ridden most of those areas over the years and am coming next week for my annual Spring trip to NorCal :happay

I was just making my GPS maps today, and lots of those roads are on them :evil

Your pics are reminding me why I ride so far to experience them :raabia

Guess I better get down there this year if I want to ride over the bridge.

    Thanks Jonathan

In Kelsey, off 193, I turn onto Spanish Flat Rd. This turns into Traverse Creek Rd, then Bear Creek Rd, then onto Darling Ridge Rd which brings me around Georgetown to Wentworth Springs Rd. My first time on these goaty backroads. Folks do live out here tho.

This is Darling Ridge Rd. IDK, with a name like that; it must be ridden:thumb
I also discovered this on Pashnit dot com. If I didn't know this road went through, I may have turned around. Very narrow. I've been on walking paths wider then this in spots. It passes through an OHV park, as I seen a few dirt bikes crossing over this road.

Enough goat trails. Such a great mix of roads up here. Onto more sport touring roads. This is quite an incredible motorcycle road. Many sport bikes up here usually. However, today was early, the road recently opened. The surfaces up at the higher elevations were still not ready for prime time.
May I present: Wentworth Springs Rd.

A fire swept through here (of course) a few years back.

That sign says 'Uncle Tom's Cabin", a short gavel road to a biker type bar. Popular with the cruisers. They were open.

Gaining elevation. This is quite close to Lake Tahoe (as the crow flies).
    10CPROI110312-022601 (2).JPG

    This is about 6000 feet.
    10CPROI110312-023020 (2).JPG

The pavement was a bit sketchy in parts due to this being very early.

I basically turned around here and headed into Georgetown for lunch at the deli. Then work my way back home. Still 3.5 hours from home.

As a mostly road version of the adventure rider, I appreciate your post. Looks like a really nice ride, I wish I had stuff like that near me-- alas, Nebraska is flat. Mostly, anyway. Keep the posts rolling!

Wentworth is one of my favorite roads in the area. Never gets old. The views are awesome. Did you open it up on the long straights? Ha. Turn left at Icehouse Road and head to Loon Lake or til the road ends at the Rubicon.
Not sure if you've mentioned it before. Another good road is Emigrant Trail. It goes from 50 to 88. It's paved, and I think you end up at 8000 feet near Silver Lake and Kirkwood.
Miss the area. Been exploring Idaho for a year and a half.

I was able to get a full day ride in on Sun (May 16, 2021). This was pretty epic. The goal was to head SE, south of Yosemite NP to Besore Rd, Grizzly Flat Rd, then Minarets /Mammoth Pools Rd. HEAVY fire damage up here. I got up to 7100 feet elevation and almost 28k feet gain on the day. This was a fun day, very few stops. I did however stop for coffee at the amazing Mariposa Coffee Company. A few pics here to get started:

Thanks for sharing! I have ridden many of these roads over the years but certainly a few that I have not. Fortunately like you, many of these areas are nearly in my backyard.

I love getting a early start; the roads are clear, the speeds are.......high. Blasting through the valley and headed to the southern Sierras. The Sena really grabbed some decent pics. The morning light was perfect. This is Hornitos Rd. Merced county.

I made my way through Mariposa. Quite a few folks heading up into Yosemite NP milling in town here. Then it's CA 49 where I stopped for coffee, mentioned above. Past through Oakhurst, on 41 for a short bit to Bass Lake Rd.

    10CPROI110327-004310 (2).JPG

At Bass Lake, I turn onto Beasore Rd. I first was shown this road by riding buddy Keith several years back. I sure miss riding with Keith. This is a FSR (not sure what #). It climbs quickly. This is maybe my 4th time up here.

I really enjoy your ride reports, thank you for posting them. Mrs Bone and I moved up to Washington 20 years ago after growing up and living in southern California and the Bay Area. I'm hoping to ride some of the areas you have posted as we bought a small second home in the Santa Cruz area last year. I am currently living vicariously through your posts.

Ok, back to this ride. This is Grizzly Rd. Quite narrow and very remote. This is just south of Yosemite NP and was devastated by a major fire last year.

Shocking and heartbreaking to see what recent fires have done to much of the western landscape. The last time I rode Minarets and Grizzly was about 10 years ago and it was green and beautiful. We are scheduled to go ride those roads in Sept, but I'm not sure, we'll see. 10 years ago a Sept or Oct ride in the Sierra was a regular thing. Now it seems like you have to watch closely to what's happening with fires and smoke. Covid and fires put the kibosh on last year's Sept ride that was to go by Shaver Lake.
