Does anyone know the status of Aufderheide Scenic Highway from Blue River to Oakridge Oregon? My wife and I took the GSA's down highway 126 and the area around Blue River and Cougar Reservoir had tremendous burn damage from last summer.

The fire fighters working near Blue River just did an amazing job of protecting life and property. So many homes with burned trees on 360 degrees. Those wildfire guys are studs!

Anyone know the status of the road from Estacada to Detroit? Also one of our favorite roads near Portland. Detroit was almost totally destroyed as well.

A group of us rode Estacada/Detroit early last July. Sadly, much of what we saw is destroyed. ODOT still shows the highway as closed.

Estacada to Detroit 224 is closed for sure possibly till 2022 spring. Although ive seen some mention of possibly later this summer but woulnn't believe they could clear all the hazards that soon.

How about Timothy Lk to Detroit (after snow) ? From Timothy, I'm wondering if we can go over High Rock, or down Oak Grove fork.

Last i saw you'll be able to get to Timothy lake East from 26 (once snow melts) but no furter than dam on west side . As far as going to Detroit from there i think you'll have to contact ranger district or see if website's have the road conditions updated, the burn area's are patchy over that side so every road will be different

    Digger -

Where does the Quartzville / Yellowbottom road connect? Is it asphalt the whole way? Never been on it, but went by it last Friday on our way up the Santiam - that's an amazing road as well! Saw the sign to Quartzville anyway......

Yes, asphault the whole way. FS road 11, comes out on the Santiam Highway at Straight creek road. fun twisty road, nice day loop, go up the 11 then back toward Sisters and down toward Blue river to the 19 road. In summer when they are all open, include the 242 highway in between the 11 and the 19, should take most of the day.

It is asphalt, but the road is breaking up but perfect for a adventure bike with extra suspension.
Take care with a street bike, but I have been riding street bikes on it for almost 40 years.
Just don't try to keep up with an adventure suspensioned bike.
It's a great way to stay away from traffic going north.
My favorite way to Mount Hood and beyond.
At the east side it ends on HWY 22.
Turn left and north towards Detroit, then north again on the Brightinbush road FS42 I believe to Mt Hood.
Zig and zag to Skyline Road.

    Thanks Digger -

Was looking for new rides for street bikes. Won't see any new paving for years after the money spent on fires and storms the last couple years.

...Mostly....except that would be FS46 and it's probably closed now due to the fires. Well, that and the snow, except the snow will melt; the fires melted a lot more.

And now, for the rest of the story, looking at a map.
Going north from Detroit, I take FS46.
As for the Zig and Zag, go up and over the rise on FS46, and on the down hill side, after a bridge, take a right up FS42 which is Skyline Road.
FS42 goes past Clackamas Lake, Abbot Pass and out to HWY26.
Gas can be had west of the junction of FS42 & HWY26 and the next junction of HWY26 & HWY35, the road to Hood River.
From years of experience, my guess it's still snowed in this time of year.

The Oregonian had a story today saying the Estacada to Detroit road will be closed all summer. Sounds like resources are being applied to higher volume roads which makes a lot of sense.

I was at the Skyline SnoPark for a break riding back from East Fort Rock last Sunday. The snow was piled deep on FS42 Skyline Rd leaving the parking lot, and FS43 Cedar Burn Rd at intersection with Hwy 26, was also still snowed in. Barlow Road is still deep in snow at the top @ Hwy35.

^^Go in from the Blue River end,,you'll get turned back quicker.
I'm betting there is snow before roaring river.
From the Westfir side, you won't make it to the cabin where we always stop to pee. On the way back down,(westfir side) go up the 1910 or 1912 and hook up to the 1802 and come down onto Winberry road, good gravel (like none) this time of year and the paved end is fun,,:1drink
I'll be fixing a crazy wheel for a mower.
