Unfortunately the quarry on the other side had grown to the point of making it too dangerous to continue.

Those that made it to the top stood a good chance of riding over a 50 metre + cliff. Not ideal.

Shame, it had a long history, and a great day out.

Casterton in western Vic near the SA border has an annual hillclimb event, coinciding with the only public road drag strip event in Australia I believe. ( Vic roads and police close the road to the public)
The hillclimb is straight at the eastern end of the main street. Some hill too, video doesn't do it justice and shows those that made it. Plenty don't.

I went in this hill climb event in 2017 on my 300RR . . . didn't make it but had a lot of fun trying :) It's on the bucket list of things to go back and do.

Pike's Peak isn't particularly steep though, just huge dropoffs if you slide over the side.

I drove it in a rent-a-car 20+ year's ago, made sure I was first at the entrance gate at 6am and gunned it to the top without having to worry about traffic going up or coming down. It was pretty much all dirt and lotsa fun if you're into drifting.

For inspiration, I watched this the night before.

A shame they got it up and running again only that one time in 2015....

The last iconic gravel hillclimb left in the world - since Pikes Peak became all tarmac...

Back in the editions 1997 - 2007... yeah, he was always among... the front runners (along with rod Millen and Possum Bourne). Rile's went over there a couple of times with a really potent little Hyabusa rear engined open wheeler/cart that he prepared also...

In the 2015 editon though... Tajima didn't "own it"... he "bought it"... :augie :deal

The Harley Club of Victoria ran a hill climb for years, was a great event.
About 400m long and just got gradually steeper up the side of this cleared hill on a property.
The last 50m or so started getting rocky with a damn near vertical pinch, seemed that way anyway.
There was a bit of a series happening back then. One at Colac, Casterton was there then i think too, the Harley Club one and a couple of others .
Good fun to compete and watch.

Pretty much describes the Brindabella Enduro hillclimb except for the length.
    Pics courtesy of Baza/@hunter_greyghost.
The creek at the bottom meant there was no runup.

But I took this one. A bit hard to read but it was for 1st in 1980 on the TT500D.
