    Hi Everyone,

I'm building a dual-sport Ducati Monster 750 and need to convert from road to dual sport (50/50ish) tires. My question is about rear tire sizing: It currently has a 160, but I don't see a 160 size in the rear tires that I'm considering: Conti TKC80, Heidenau K60 Scout, Shinko 705 or 804, Metzler Karoo, etc.

I see a 150 or a 170 rear, so my question is: Which is a appropriate size? The rim size is 4.5"x17". The spacing of the swingarm can accommodate a 170 and it will fit the 4.5" rim, but I'm curious to understand if narrower or fatter would better. The 170 would give me a little more height as well, since I'm working to increase the ground clearance a bit, including building up the stock seat's front bucket to get me higher on the bike.

Type of roads: Northeast US country dirt/mud, loose gravel, fire roads, etc. The dirt when muddy can get a little deep, but probably not more than 2-3", though it's slippery...almost red-clay-ish.

    Thanks for any insights.

A 150/70-17 should fit on a 4.5" rim... (people have done that on the Desert Sled that comes with the same size rear rim, although stock is 170/60-17)

Thank you! That's what I ordered: Conti TKC-80 150/17 and 120/was 70 for the front.

Update: Just got the Conti TKC-80 tires and 150 is definitely the better size for this Monster vs. the 170. The 150 with big block tread rubber is almost as wide as the stock 160 road tire.

    Thanks again @Max Kool
