    Good day fellow american bikers

My name is Thierry, I’m 59 years old and from Basel, Switzerland. Since January 2008 I am living my dream and ride my motorbike around the world. My epic journey started in Mexico-City and will also end in Mexico-City. The 1st leg was Latin America, the 2nd leg brought me from Europe all the way to Far East following the south route, on the 3rd leg I explored Ozeania and then drove back from Far East back to Europe, this time following on the north route. The 4th leg was the crossing of Africa and now I am on my 5th and last leg riding across North America back to Mexico-City.

For the first two legs I used a BMW F650 Dakar, the third leg I did on a BMW F800GS. For Africa I rebuilt and modified a Suzuki DR650 because I wanted to have simple and lighter bike for that continent (which proved to be a very good decision!). And now for North America I use again the BMW F800GS…

If you are interested to see some pics/footage from the previous legs you are welcome to visit my website or check out my Facebook timeline.

So for the last leg I shipped the bike to Anchorage, Alaska, early June this year and I am now on my way south back to Mexico-City. Currently I am in Vancouver. I think to cross the border to the US in about 1 week from now. My goal is to arrive in Mexico-City approx. by end of next year – end of 2020. So this and next year I want to do the 3-corner loop (skipping the northeast) around the Unites States - including a winter break when I will store the bike somewhere (probably in Florida, depending how far I will get until end of October / beginning of November and I find somebody who is willing to store my bike at his place).

Why I am writing all this? Well, I would love and was hoping to meet some of you fellow bikers somewhere in the US. I will stay quite a while and cover a decent distance in the US, hence it might be possible that I will pass near your home town. Wouldn’t it be nice to meet, have a few:beer together and exchange stories? That’s all part of the adventure and travels, isn’t it?

It’s a long time dream of me to visit and travel the US on my motorbike. I’ve read and heard too many great stories of bikers who travelled the US – now it’s my turn and I can’t wait to see all these fantastic places with my own eyes…

So hopefully I’m going to meet the one or another of you. I wish you all the best, good luck and always safe riding!

    Cheers from Vancouver :wave

    Thierry

    Grüetzi Thierry,
Always happy to host travelers here in the So. Cal mountains and hear stories! Have a few of my own, but from the looks of it you've accumulated a few more. Here's Link to my Tent Space posting, and if you haven't come across the tent space thread yet, it's a good place to find other riders and even some travelers.

@ PukaWai: Jä grüetzi wohl! Either you have been in Switzerland and picked up that word or you are a swiss expat :-D. Thank you very much for your reply and offer! I will definitely come your way and I'll make sure it will not be on a day like on your picture :-)! I'll keep in touch and will give you a heads-up early enough before arrival. It will be most probably summer/late summer next year. Ok?
Thanks again and all the best!
    Cheers

    Just a tip:

Directing inmates here to another web site to follow your journey doesn't work too well.

If you hope to garner support from this website then it would behoove you to cross post your blog here.

Have fun. Every International motorcycle traveler I have met says "USA was MADE for motorcycle travel"

@ Tuckers: Thanks for the tip. I inserted the links to my website just for your information about my journey I did so far. Only for those who are interested. And I thought maybe the one or another might be interested to hook up in facebook, too. And I did it also for transparency with the idea that you get to know me better, respectively to deliver proof for my journey... :-)
I read, heard and saw so many great things about this beautiful country that I am really excited that finally I can discover it myself on my motorcycle. There is a reason why I decided to do the States as the final leg - it is the perfect finish for an epic journey around the world...!

Thiery. Welcome to California in advance.

Stay on this forum and you'll never be alone even though you're riding solo.

Wish we can meet since I like international travelers to feel at ease. I would be following along and if I'm around, surely obliged to help.

Enjoy the CA coast, the Sierras and the beautiful northern CA. If you like the desert, Socal is the place.

    Hello everybody,

I just want to tell you that I safely made it to Miami. What a great trip it was! Are you guys actually aware in what a beautiful and diversified country you are living? I don’t even start to list all the highlights I have seen along the way, that list would become too long :-). I recommend you to visit my website and/or Facebook to see my pictures and then you’ll know what I mean…

I was really lucky during the trip that I didn’t experience any breakdown or crash, not even a single flat tire! And thanks to various friendly hosts (you know who you are!) I got to see even more awesome, hidden roads, which are only known to locals, breathtaking landscapes and american hospitality…

My bike is now holding its winter sleep in the garage of a friend of mine in Pompano Beach (next to Fort Lauderdale) and I have already arrived safely back home in Basel/Switzerland. It’s fantastic to be on the road, but every time I come back home I also realize how important family, friends and home is. So I now enjoy a 4 months break at home and will resume the trip by end of February. I’m very much looking forward to ride across the southern states of the U.S. next year and see again a different face of the U.S. (and also some of you fellow riders :-)). That’s gonna be very exciting and interesting again… :-)

And this upcoming trip will be the very last stretch of my rtw-trip, too! I guess it will be a strange feeling when I’ll start to realize that I’m on my last miles after 12 years and more than 300’000 km (186’000 miles)…

I wish you a merry x-mas and a very happy new year with lots and lots of ridden happy miles, but most of all I wish you a good health – the base of everything…

    Warm regards and good luck
    Thierry

Thierry. Congrats to your Northern America adventure, which I'm sure there will be more places you're going to see after Miami.

    Go West young man!

Merry Christmas to you as well.

    Cheers.

    Grüetzi noch mal Thierry,
Congratulations on making that long trip without any bike issues! Looks like you had quite an adventure, I see you hit a lot of great spots, most of which I have been to at one time or another and your story brings back many first impressions of my own of these places. Hope your next segment is just as successful. There are quite a few cool places worth visiting in the South, east of the Missisippi. West of there is Texas, boring as the rest of the Plains with no redeeming qualities whatsoever except maybe Big Bend. I recommend going north to Carlsbad, New Mexico (caverns there) and then to Colorado and Utah, AKA Motorcycle Heaven. Hope we get to meet you out here on the coast. There's a couple of biker events here you may be interested in : DVNR (probably too early in the year for your trip) and also HU California which is always a good time.
It is ironic that while you were stomping around my back yard this summer, I was stomping around yours. Indeed, I rode through Basel 3 times this year. I'm sure you recognize the rocks in the pic below:D

@ NSFW: Thank you very much! And yes, I'll go West - from Miami this is the only option (when you came from the North) :-)

@ PukaWa: Thank you very much! Let's see if it works out for a meeting in California. I will inform in this forum about my whereabouts and schedule. I hope to meet many more local bikers along the way. The HU California would be a great option, I hope it works out with the timing...
That's really funny that you've been in Switzerland and even Basel, while I'm in the U.S. at the same time. I hope you liked it. The picture looks definitely like you had a good time. So you also have been in the Wallis and saw the beautiful Matterhorn. Great picture!
Take care, good luck and have a merry x-mas and happy new year!

@ NSFW: I'd love to attend the meeting, but I fear it will take place too soon for me. I'm pretty sure that I will not have travelled that far by end of March. But let's see what happens. I keep in my mind and give you a shout should I realize that I can make it in time...

@ wrk2surf: Thank you very much for your invitation! The Yosemite NP is on my list, of course. I will get in touch with you when I see more clearly about my arrival...
