You might want to wait until Nov or Dec now. The heat and subsequent smell might not make for a wonderful day.

I would vote for Route 1...

Route 2 and 3 go through the metropolitan areas of Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Fran, San Jose... I imagine traffic would suck at any time unless there are spots you want to specifically see along the way...

Route 1 takes you through National Parks and some gorgeous scenery along the way... I'd stay away from I-15 heading north out of Las Vegas and get on NV-147, NV-167, NV-169 ...

Looks like you're going after Hogback Rd at Koosharem, Mexican Hat, Monument Valley....etc... :thumb :ricky

Thank you for your input. I am likely to go a route different then any I previously posted. I will post when I totally decide but it is one that has some desert, the Sierras, and the coast south of Monterey.

SR108, Sonora Pass is open so I’ve got a great three day, two night route planned. No major metropolitan areas either other then Vegas.

Not sure if you are doing Route 66 past Seligman & Peach Springs , or have maybe done it before. If not, I was on the west end at Hackberry, and there is a really old place ( gas station) now a shop to buy 66 stuff.

Too bad we never met up when I was camping at Rio bend, but the weather was not that nice to ride.

I like the reports you are doing on your rides, you found some unusual stuff and write very well.
My best find down there was at the desert Tower lookout exit, on the way in is Coyote's UFO rescue service , he is actually a real guy!

I also like riding in the Yuha desert off road ,on some of the trail Anza followed. cheers, Steve

I’m not doing the Route 66 this time and haven’t stopped st Seligman before. I did go through Amboy and looked at the flat earth water powered rocket and launcher. It was supposed the propel the guy up to 5000 and thus allowing him to prove the earth is flat. Hmm.

I started a short 4 day trip today. First run was 310 miles to Vegas while my wife caught a flight. We met up and went to a great Anita Baker concert.

I’m going to change the focus of this ride report to include places that are mentioned in songs. First up is a Billy Bob Thornton song, “El Centro on $5 a Day.”

I’m a music teacher by trade and listening to albums while riding is something I really enjoy. It’s a big part of the ride. Sometimes the music adds an element to the ride like U2s Joshua Tree while riding Joshua Tree NP. That said, I’m going to share my ride playlist.

The El Centro to Vegas playlist was:

Under the Influence - Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Album
The Drive By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera
The Mother Truckers - Van Tour
    Three Dog Night - Harmony
    Herbie Hancock - Thrust

After a fun weekend in Las Vegas, I headed out on a three day trip into the desert, the Sierras, and the coast.

Staying with my places in lyrics theme for this trip, "Viva Las Vegas" - Elvis

Just the wonderful scenery west of the 395.

The entrance to Area 51. A lack of credentials and time kept me from going in........

On the north exit of Beatty Nevada, there was a small group of wild burros. They gave little regard to traffic and highway rules. Go figure.

Keeping with my song/lyric themes for this ride, I have previously, . . . "been from Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah," but I did not get photographic evidence.

    IMG_0260.jpg

Tonopah has a store that can supply all of a shotgun wedding's needs - shotguns, shells, and the ring.

The rest of the day was filled with amazing sights and roads.

Beauty and the blight. I wonder how much planning went into painting the graffiti here. It is a long way from everywhere.

The day ended in Mi-Wuk Village. 470 miles and in time to watch the Warriors beat the Raptors. The bike ran flawlessly and I am very pleased with the seat improvements and progressive springs. Both have made it so a 500 mile day leaves me feeling fine and ready for the next day. I don't really think I would want to go further though on this bike. Choose the right tool for the job.

The playlist for the day went as follows:

    Humble Pie - extended Versions

    Bongo Fury - Frank Zappa

A Space in Time - Ten Years After

    Fandango - ZZ Top

    Rejuvenation - The Meters

Live On - Kenny Wayne Shepard

Europe '72 - The Grateful Dead

    Day 3 - June 11, 2019

Another day of wonderful roads that are so well suited to the T120. These are country two lane roads with scenery. I really enjoyed the area around La Grange and need to return and explore the area more in depth. Too bad it is so far from home.

Lunch was spent at The Giant Artichoke in Castroville. I first went there when I was 13 or 14 with my parents and aunt and uncle. It still looks the same inside and out for the most part. The food is still as good as it was in 1974.

    IMG_0329.jpg

Highway 1 was crowded as expected. Its accessibility and fame bring the crowds. Oh well. I was on a bike and not stuck behind the wheel of a motorhome navigating the curves and idiots.
