And more of US-1:
Even waiting in line at a construction stop point had scenery to enjoy.
Highway 1 could take hours and hours if I stopped for every picture point I'd like but sometimes I just need to have the mental pictures and movement forward. Anyway, it was a wonderful day of riding great roads and in good weather.
Day 3 Playlist:
Africa Speaks - Santana
30 Days of Dead (30 free downloads from 11/18) - The Grateful Dead
Survival of the Fittest - The Headhunters
Some Girls - The Rolling Stones
Day 4 - June 12, 2019
Last day out and it started on SR-58. This is a fantastic road that runs between San Luis Obisbo to Bakerfield to Mojave. The San Luis to Bakersfield is a wonderful motorcycle road with twists, woods, prairie, and scenic vistas. There was very little traffic and there are no accommodations between San Luis Obisbo and McKittrick (80 miles).
One thing about prairie roads in the west, expect to see rattle snakes. I saw two alive on the road. One in the area of each of these pictures. I grew up in northern Montana and had rattle snakes all over our farm. We even had them curled up against out house at times. The siding still has blast marks from my mom and her double barrel 410.
The Streets of Bakersfield - Dwight Yoakam
Not sure if the sign for the handyman shows his work at boarding up windows of if it was just a good posting place.
"and I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonopah" - Willin' (Linda Ronstad version is my favorite).
"She lives in Mojave in a Winnebago" - San Ber'Dino - Frank Zappa
Some nice apparel for sale in Mojave.
"Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze," - We're an American Band - Grand Funk Railroad
(probably not the right Little Rock but so what)
At the end of the day, I decided to ride a little further and went through Julian to keep me up out of the heat. It was 113 at home as well as in Indio. The thought of riding for over two hours in heat above 110 was not as appealing as adding 50 miles and only having 30 miles of extreme heat. The day's total was 502 miles.
All in all I did 1620 miles over the four days. The T120 ran fabulously and delivered and average 47.5 MPG. I found that I have it well dialed in for long day comfort. I still am liking this bike. Not something I said of some I've owned.
Day 4 Playlist:
Snake Farm - Ray Wylie Hubbard (was it a premonition of what I'd be seeing?)
Grifter's Hymnal - Ray Wylie Hubbard
Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. - Dwight Yoakam
Bare Trees - Fleetwood Mac
We're All in This Together - Hardworking Americans
Georgia Theater Live - Drive-By Truckers
Sixteen Stone - Bush
Superunknown - Soundgarden
Sounds like you had a great trip. The Raptors won !
Yes they did. Great series.
tjt94 - I don't listen to music when I ride but music is a major part of my life. I sing a lot inside of my helmet and usually can find songs that fit the day, or the scenery, the places I went or the people I've met. Your playlist could have been taken directly from my collection. I did not see one bad choice. Good to see another music junkie out there in the wind.
Have you ever tried any Chris Knight or Turnpike Troubadours?
I do have Chris Knight in my collection and have listened to the Troubadours.
I’ve not been riding much this summer since it’s been well over 110 forever and my tires needed replacement (7000 miles is all I get out of the front on the stock Pirelli and a Avon Storm 3). But since I’ve got a new set of Avon Spirit’s on and it was under 110 today, it was time to ride.
As I’ve said before, San Diego S2 is a great road and in my backyard.
I also visited Four Corners in San Diego Co. for the first time. Great roads and scenery!
230 miles and home by 1 PM. Perfect!
The humidity and temperatures finally dropped (it's been above 112 and humid for a while) so it was definitely time to get a run out on the T120. I did a quick 200 mile loop on the Old US 8, Sunrise Highway, Highway 79, Old US 8. I recently installed a set of Avon Spirit ST's to replace a set of Avon Storm 3D's that only lasted 7000 on the front. (It seems that the T120 like eating up front tires. I guess I need to just plan on a new set every 7K)
Out at 8 am and home at noon. Perfect day!
Playlist: The Dead Weather; North Mississippi All Stars - World Boogie Is Coming; The Woggles - The Big Beat; Chicago II
Beautiful weather makes for great riding so I took a day ride today. While I had planned on running all the way to Big Bear, I changed my mind and route when I was having lunch in Hemet. I just didn't want to add the additional 3.5 hours to the ride. Today was definitely "the journey is more important then the destination" kind of ride. I think most of mine are.
