    Northern Tasmania today,

Motorcyclist caught doing 173kph in 100 zone
Police nabbed a motorcyclist travelling 173 kilometres per hour in a 100-kilometre zone in the state's north yesterday afternoon.

Police say the 35-year-old man was travelling with a group of other motorcyclists riding south along Biralee Road in Biralee when he was intercepted.

Officers seized the man's motorbike for 28 days and say the man will be summoned to attend court.

The rider is also facing a fine of more than $3,000 and a minimum four months' license disqualification.

Police say they are inquiring into another member of the group who was speeding at 143 kilometres per hour.

Weren't me ! Not even a nice bit of road to be doing 173 kph on. Wish I was still 35 though.

Western Explorer & Mt McCall Loop (3-9 Sep)

Mr J & me are planning a cruisy camping 7-dayer in September. Like-minded deviants are invited to join.

    • It’ll be medium-softish adventure riding, “smell the flowers, enjoy the views”-type, no super long or hard days, otherwise I won’t cope ;-)

    • Most or all of it will be camping, possibly some bush camping with no facilities. Camp fires highly likely (we’re addicted to them, where permitted).

    • We’ve got a general route outline, but this can change depending on group mood, weather and stray cosmic rays. Map sketches in attached pics, also online here https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/displa...99038-map.html (I hope that link still works, you’ll get a few error messages initially, just click OK until they go away).

    • Quite a bit of de-touring on smaller roads planned. And rough gravel roads, easy-medium dry 4WD tracks.

    • Highlights include the Western Explorer, the Franklin River at the end of the Mt McCall Track, and exploring some Lake King William Tracks.

    • For 2 short clips about the Mt McCall track look here:

“Mt McCall and Mt Owen, Tasmania”

and here (scroll down to find the video)

    https://tassietravelsblog.com/kelly-basin-trip/

    • Mr J will be on his Wee-Strom, I’ll be on a lowered DR650. Bikes should have dual sport tyres, maybe at least 70:30 road:dirt type. (Did you know that a scooter just won one of the toughest European multi-day adventure rallies, against KTMs and other top notch rally bikes?)

    • We’ll be happy to help newcomers to this sort of thing, may even be able to help with some gear if needed. Talk to us.

    • Group size 4-6 max

    • National Parks pass needed.

    • Tues 3/9 – Mon 9/9 (6 nites, 7 days)

PM or reply here if you could be interested.

I'd join you but I'll be in the red centre on the bike, my mate Michael is no longer coming with me due to the length of time that I'll be away, I've put him onto you to see if he wants to do it.
Is the Bird River track open again? We were there with the kids last year and it had a sign close until further notice due to storm damage, land slide or something.

G'day guys. I'm looking at getting back into the adventure style of riding. Trying to sell my cruiser to fund the new bike. Be keen to tag along on some rides in the future.
I live at Primrose Sands. Moved back last yead after spending 15 years in Townsville.
Looking forward to meeting a few of you guys in the future.

    Hello there,

Going from cruiser to ADV sounds good.

Not a lot being organised on this thread here, used to be different, but not at the mo.

The Ulysses mob in Hobart also does a bit of a dirt road ride on Sundays every now and then.

Hope to meet you one day.

    :-) dq.

Yeah I joined last night. Biggest thing will be selling my Vaq. Not a great time to be selling a bike in Tassie at the moment. Then I'll have to find my new bike. I'm leaning more towards the Super Tenere over the DL1000
