Two of us started tuesday from charlotte NC on mixed set of tracks and are now in Monteagle TN. Has rained last two days making big bikes challenging on Sam's new tracks in far west NC and far east TN. But was really just because we are fully loaded GS guys and only involved slipping/sliding and a bit higher water than normal. Nothing dramatic. Anybody on a light bike or not riding in the pouring rain/mud should be fine. Locals very friendly throughout. Tellico does not seem to be really open for the season in terms of restaurants, but we found a good spot to stay at The Lodge at Tellico. Nice folks. Also recommending Smoke House Trading Post in Monteagle (especially good for those with low cholesterol, whoever they are).

Checking in. Finally have everything pretty much ready. Looking for someone/a group leaving late June/Early July, prefer mostly camping and a relaxed but not crazy slow pace.
Africa Twin and maybe if I'm feeling crazy a SherpaX trailer.

There's a FB page that's supposed to help find 2019 TAT riders people to ride with: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1883180015093836/

That is going to be a great ride. It should also be cooler since you hit higher elevation North.

I am going to try and get through NV, but I have those tracks downloaded also just in case I change my mind once I hit UT.

Actually, we rode all day today, and are overnight tonight in Florence, Alabama. This is a bit south of the trail but has good restaurants and live music! It did rain on us in the am and once in the afternoon. This part of TN (between Monteagle and Collinwood) was endless small asphalt roads joined by short dirt sections which were generally in narrow valleys. There was alos two long gravel road runs which seemed to be in forestry co land. All of this was pretty much improved gravel/graded roads and not a problem despite tons of rain. In Florence, recommend "yumm", which has sushi and other asian dishes and was very good.

I have a group leaving NC on July 9. Picking up more folks in Tellico Plains around the 13th. Most are going all the way to Oregon. All big bikes, moderate pace, lots of camping.

Let me know if you want to join!

I'll most likely need a rear tire by Trinidad, CO for a WR250R.

Do you guys think I will be able to buy tires there, or will I need to slab it north to a bigger city like Pueblo or Colorado Springs?

I could also just strap a spare rear tire on the back at the start if need be.

Yeah, but loving and supportive wives (patient and tolerant perhaps?) is how we get to do this crazy thing.

Last year, my wife drove 5 hours round trip to bring me a set of rear brake pads to a rally so I wouldn't miss the last day of riding. How do you thank your wife for that one? I had all winter and it was a LONG winter...

    Ride safe and RIDE RIGHT!

Only thing I’ve seen is the passes in Colorado are still closed. I’ll be there mid July and hope things open but the sites are thinking it could be late July or August. Here’s hoping!!!

I’ve wondered about conditions with all the storms but haven’t dug in. Let us know what you find!
