Status on passes, etc. in San Juans posted on Hinsdale County FB page (https://m.facebook.com/hinsdalecountycolorado/)

“The latest information from San Juan, San Miguel and Ouray counties on progress to open back country roads. Thank you DeAnne Gallegos, Executive Director, Silverton Area Chamber of Commerce

    Backcountry Roads OPEN:
-Top of Stoney Pass (County crew working down to Pole Creek but Pole Creek is HIGH Water and unpassable)
-Top of Hurricane Pass (Best case scenario is California open to Animas Forks in a couple more weeks.)
-Top of Corkscrew Pass (Ouray County working on their portion still)
    -Top of Ophir Pass
-South Mineral open to the last campground
-Animas Forks road clear from Eureka to Grouse Gulch only.

San Juan County Crews hope to start chipping away at Cinnamon Pass around the 4th of July. Ouray County crews are working on Corkscrew and Engineer from their side but no concrete estimate given at this time.

Please be cautious of Avalanche debris, high river waters, snow bridges and rapidly changing weather.”

The location page has been setup.

You can join it here: https://spotwalla.com/join.php?a=a&id=700
You can look at where folks are here: https://spotwalla.com/locationViewer.php?id=700

If you are unfamiliar with Spotwalla, setup an account and check out the help info. It works with a lot of different devices (Spot, inReach, iPhone, Android and more)

Yes, public. Anyone who's planning on doing the TAT can join in to see where folks are and maybe connect. Once you are finished riding the TAT you can remove yourself so you don't show up riding to the grocery store in your home town :-)

Thx for posting this! I just joined spotwalla and the TAT page, my initials are "int" username is internet_user. I'm not showing up on the map currently, does it take a little time to refresh?

Anyhow, I plan to head south from Boston this week passing through Asheville NC before hopping on the TAT. My plan is to take it as far as New Mexico then head south to Santa Fe.

Traveling solo, happy to meet or travel with folks along the way!

If you just joined you probably don't have any existing track points and invisible on the shared map. Once your device starts tracking it will show.

Just met a dad and son on crf250's doing the TAT near SLC at the dealership. They had to by pass some of the Colorado stuff due to snow. It was day 17 for them, there moteling it tonight then headed for Idaho next. I think probably some road miles to get past here then pick it up.
They may be posting on a FB TAT page, names where Mark and Anthony, nice people. Had Indiana tags I believe.

How does someone avoid avalanche debris? When/how do avalanches in Colorado typically happen?

I see you on the page now! Just NE of Asheville. My crew should be passing by there on Wed or so. Maybe we’ll see you on the route! We are following Kevin’s tracks till Nevada. I’ll be on a F800GSA with giant loop pannier bags. I am Joe on the map. Currently showing in Washington but once I jump on the bike tomorrow I’ll pop up in Raleigh

    Ride safe!

What are the light blue tracks on the spotwalla map and where can I download them?

The light blue are Sams tracks. Dark blue, green and red are Kevin’s tracks. Sams can be purchased at transamtrail.com

    Sounds great! Have a blast!

For what it's worth to others in the general vicinity (or those about to be) I'm waiting on new tires that should arrive this evening, and plan to depart Asheville NC tonight or first thing tomorrow. Here's my bike....say hi if you see me!

Friendly heads up: Cade's cove was a zoo...not worth the traffic imho...lots of one-ways that force you into a circuit. This closure of the Parson Branch Road will have you doubling back to route around anyhow. Suggest using "07 Bypass Cades Cove" if you're following Kevin's...
Tail of the dragon was a blast! Seems criminal I almost cut it out.

Worst nightmare road ever. Getting stuck on that Cade's Cove loop road was hell a few years back. Big mistake. They really need to put up a sign somewhere, lol.
