Hey gang, the esposa and I are planning a TAT trip in June/July. We're both on 790's, me on an R and she's on an S. We both have close to 11k miles on them.

We've done a few extended trips on them but nothing of TAT magnitude. Just wondering what spare parts we should carry, 790 specific or otherwise.

    TIA :D

The only actual "spares" I carry on the 790 is a front tube and the fuel pump elbow. Everything else is tools and repair items (Zipties, duct tape, etc)

Pack endurance .. you can't fake endurance, so maybe train now so you can pack the extra later on. :D

Spares would be a short list for me:
    - Maybe a clutch and brake lever in case of breakage??

I do however pack my tail bag for every ride with:
    - AAA Card
    - Location and phone numbers of KTM dealers
    - Patch kit
    - Mini Compressor
    - Tool kit
    - First Aid Items
    - Bottle water
    - Power Bar
    - Zip ties
    - Electrical tape
    - Money and extra credit card
    - Hat
    - Rubber gloves
    - Rag
    - Bungie cord
    - Velcro Strap
    - WD40

    Thanks for all the replies!

I guess I should've been a little more specific. As far as spares I was really talking about 790 parts, if any, that have been known to fail. I haven't really kept up with the forums lately and we personally have not had any issues with our bikes (besides the oil nozzle and the recall) but was wondering if anything else is rearing it's ugly head. Kinda thinking about the old 950 and how all those guys carried an extra water pump, y'know, stuff like that...

Since it's two of you traveling and on the same model bikes you could go a little heavier with spares if desired. If there is an abundance of spare space, maybe an OEM clutch pack and a fuel pump. A rear brake & shifter pedal are contenders too I suppose. Easy to get carried away with packing spares though and in this day in age you can get most stuff very quickly no matter where you are. I have some spares that stay at home in case I need someone to ship me something.

As for handguards: If you have serious handguards your levers will be safe enough that if one got broken someone's ride is probably over, so let's not even go there! If you don't have serious stout handguards, get some before you leave.

Excellent, I will be doing the TAT this fall on my 790, now I can watch your adventure and know what to bring :-)

I think I will be packing a spare air filter, flat repair, chain maintenance supplies and a credit card!

Doh! Excellent point about the airfilter! I didn't think to mention it. I run a Rottie power plate pre-filter and carry a pre-oiled spare pre-filters in a ziplock bag. Nice because they are light and pack small. However I also run solo on long trips so I'm not typically eating dust or making someone else eat my dust. Traveling in tandom will require more frequent cleaning in dry conditions unless you make a point of riding parallel to each other or ride well spaced apart.

Maybe a clutch lever, but with QS, it is not a necessity. JB weld, zip ties, silicone tape and wire can fix most small mishaps. Tire pump (manual bike pump is fine) and patch kit.

A rope to tow the other bike. Anything else can be bought and shipped...
