I'm sure you could get them done at the 3 Step Hideaway or another shop around Moab. We stored our bikes near Provo and used a local Kawasaki shop there to do the tires on our four bikes during the hiatus we took in the middle of the TAT. Look up the kind folks at the 3 Step - it's right on the TAT just south of the La Sals (before Moab) and a great place to lay up for some needed maintenance.

I sent my tires via UPS to Three Step.

Scott had them waiting there for me with my name on them.

Did my first 600 mile maintenance service on bike today and found the exhaust valves on the tight side of their tolerance. Intake valves were right where I wanted them. Sooooooo much easier to adjust valves on the DR vs the KLR!!

One of my hopes during this trip is that I jot down basic trail information each day to have as a form of a journal. I saw where another TAT rider did something similar, so I have adapted his journal format to fit my needs. Here's what I plan to cover each day on the trip:

    TAT Day #

    Gas Station Anxiety Level (1-10):

I don't know what else you would want to note. We saw and leap frogged with 2 other groups and one lone rider. We were more steady and they were more racy but we saw them off and on most days. The store that had the large TAT sign out front had a few riders there too.

Smart move adjusting the exhaust valve clearances. They tend to tighten up over time.

image.jpeg Met some old high school buddies for a week of trail riding last week out at Rampart Range near Sedalia, CO. I finally got some trail miles on the bike and I was impressed. To those that say the DR650 is a "little more trail oriented" than a KLR650, I call that one of the biggest understatements I've heard on these forums. Having taken a KLR out on these same trails in the past, I can confidently say that the DR650 feels at home on trails that leave a KLR rider soiling his pants and calling for his mommy.

Next week I head to the Andrews, NC to begin the journey!

Subscribed. Nothing in there came from the SKUA pile and I'm sure nothing reeks of penguin guano..... I'm betting.

Hey, have fun. I rode the TAT, I guess only the Western half, last summer. It was easily the greatest ride of my life. Your bike looks a bit like mine. Well done.

Not this time around. However, my next trip will be the first unsupported ride to the South Pole on a DR650. Any sponsors out there?? :-)

Mile zero of the TAT. Feeding Dave, who hauled me and my motorcycle out from Denver. Thanks Dave!
