Thinking of attending this from Wellington anyone else going ? http://www.epicevents.co.nz/page/13-motorbike-events+berm-buster
A group of us went to the last one (3 weeks ago?) Epic events always are well run so there is food and coffee and plenty of space on the tracks, ours was the first after lock down so was crowded, parking in the forestry is cramped so get there early, 700 odd riders first day, close to the same the second. The terrain is ok, lots of "roads" and enough expert loops to keep it interesting (just), the pumice base makes it rideable in all weathers but it is semi alpine so go prepared for cold. A great family ride but we got a bit bored with the lack of single track and challenging components but as long as it doesn't get too whooped out its a fun ride.
Interesting cheers I'll have to check out more videos on YouTube then, I dont want to drive all the way from Wellington if I'm gonna be bored
It's always hard to describe these sorts of experiences without any idea of each others competence, as I said before, its a family ride with some interesting expert sections which I describe as rideable by any capable trail rider. I'm an average rider and got around everything with only a few hiccups.
Just had a quick search of the youtubes.... this shows the A loops although I have to admit we didn't find the second part shown on here which would have been more fun. It is a fair representation of the ride tho.
I see there's another of these in a few weeks time (and another in September). Now very keen... Potentially a space on a Manawatu based ute.
Might have to try to get to one of them. Hopefully I can twist a mate's arm. Gutted I missed the Orua trail ride 'cos of a mongrel cold. 730 riders on the main track and a beautiful day for it.
There were around 4-500 last year and it wasn't a problem. Big 35-40km laps and the muddy races sorted out the men from the boys at the start... I was one of the boys...only got one lap in on the WR, but it was fantastic! I was keen to better that this time around - cold's suck!
This fat old bloke finally got to attend today's one. Damn it was fun! Did 1 of the longer 38km and loops and 2 of the shorter 19km loops (none of the optional tricky bits) and that was enough for me. The tracks were awesome with oodles of grip, some tighter bits in places and some great faster bits - top gear got used quite a bit! I'm sore now and will be sorer tomorrow. Bike was great!
I got a lot of video and it can get a bit boring after a while but here's a snippet of one of the more open stretches:
Looks like a lovely day down there, good on you making the effort! I was supposed to be doing the pussy pounder in Riverhead this weekend but Covid has put a stop to that, not sure where my next trail ride is coming from.
