It was a crazy day, from bad storms with hail and snow in the morning to dry desert in the afternoon. 285 miles and 14 hours on the bikes.
    Day 2 videos are up.

I’d love to hear what you found difficult. Looks like your running a few 14 hour days so far. That’s a lot of seat time.

I was gutted when things went all sideways for you guys. You try your best to prepare, but there are so many uncontrolables that have you at their mercy.
I guess thats part of the deal with a ride like this.
The DR is a fine choice. I rode my xr200/230 and Roostre rode a Chineese 250f last year. Its more about knowing your ride and how to make it work for you instead of how much it costs, or how new it is.
We had 1884 miles on the odometer by the end. It took us two tries, and that seems to be pretty common.

Sounds like a rough but memorable trip. I love those.

Surprised you didn't try to hot wire the ignition.

Glad you made it back safe.

It can't easily be done because of the resistor that inside the switch.

Not trying to salt your wounds but if you cut the orange and red wires and twist them together the bike will turned "on".

Those are some fantastic vids. Going to entertain me for some time.

A 100 ohm 5w resistor has to be wired in for the CDI to fire, this is well documented where people have tried to replace the factory key switch with an aftermarket one.
It is a 2 pole switch, one turns the accessories on the other sends the resisted signal to the CDI to fire.

I have been using a toggle switch for an ignition for several years. Probably not text book, but I use a double pole toggle to connect the red and orange wire for on, then connect the 2 blacks for kill. The Brown and Green are permanently connected for lights. I have cooked off an under sized toggle before and had to cut and twist the O/R together to fire the bike. Might not be right but I know it works.

    Jeff, Chadzu,
I will be following along. It is still my hope and dream to try this next summer. Please post up any and all useful tips and info. I know you will make it this time Jeff. You were robbed last time after all the preparation and work you put in. But what an adventure!
