I was planning being at the place where oswald dome road comes out on US 64 as quick as I can this Saturday, which that could be anywhere between 11am and 2pm. Then I was planning on heading to Tellico plains on as many of the good dirt roads as I can get, and then riding river rd and usfs 81 to camp at santeetlah. SDS might be with me as well. If you want to go that's cool. I'll try to get a definant time so you don't end up waiting on us to arrive.

I just got back from up there and my two favorite roads were Citico Road off of the Indian Boundry Road and Cold Springs Road. They were fast, scenic and virtually nobody to bother you.

Green Cove is a nice road/area, too. Kimsey Mountain Highway is my favorite.
We spent a week (mostly) riding all over that area last month. Some accounts with a bunch of photos here (link encompasses two trips: 2007 and 2009). The travelogue is in reverse chronology, so scrolling down will start with earliest date(s).

Horseshoe Bend on Kimsey Mnt Hwy (FS 68).

Nice route, Python! Thanks for posting. I'm headed down there this weekend to check it out. Are permits required for the single-track trails?

Hey Python that sure is a good looking guy in the Grey Jacket and a very nice DR. Yeh Im old but young at heart.

I am planning a big circle route starting in the Land Between the Lakes in Ky going south and picking up the C2C route east. I plan to break off from it and head north and run close to eastern side of the Smokies. I need some help on some good gravel roads around Ashville heading north. I plan to keep heading north up through Eastern Virginia and East part of W.VA. then head east back into Ky and then south down to about Hazard KY before I head east home. If I get it all planned I will share the Route and Tracks with everyone.

Any good road along the way would be appreciated.

Python thanks again for the tracks. One of the guys that went with me couldnt believe I knew way around so well. I didnt tell them about the tracks till the ride was over. :ricky

Thanks for putting together this route - it was excellent. My brother and I rode most of the routes over the weekend. We did Witt Road on Sunday the day after a big storm on Saturday - few down trees and deep creek crossings - lot of fun! Also tried trail 82 from the south from 68 - ran the first section fine but second section had a large down tree which we could not get around on our larger bikes. Also like Kinsley Mtn rd and Lost Creek Rd.

We did not take pictures - but had a great time.

    Thanks for posting the route.

I hiked the entire Trail 82 this past Thursday with a chain saw. Cleared the large Oak near Buck Bald and the huge pine about mid-way. It's good to go right now.

Planning a ride Thu or Fri of this week (20th or 21st) covering some or all of Python's great tracks in TN. :clap

We'll be coming from Ellijay trying to hit as much off-road as possible and probably starting out at Witt Rd, either near Farner or Tellico Plains (suggestions from those who have done it ?)

I'm on a KTM 690 but my friend is on a wee-strom, with new Tourance tires and good skill. Will the Wee make all the trails (we'd like to do 81 and 82)?

Thanks for suggestions, adivce and anybody who'd like to join us please chime in. We're pretty flexible on day if the weather looks like it will hold, although right now Thu looks like the last decent day this week

I would not recommend a WEE on either of the trails 81 or 82. A really good rider probably could do it. 81 is the more technical one. I have not ridden it but I have hiked the hard part of it and watched other do it. There are a few sections on it that if there was a mishap I do not believe that two people could get a WEE back to to trail.

I have done 82 a few times. There is a steep section on the northern end of the trail that is difficult. All of the rest is pretty narrow side of a mountain trail.

    Others please chime in.

A few pics of trail 81:

I don't ride a wee but I probably wouldn't take one on the single track. THere was one section that the DRs had a little trouble with:
