I must be dumb! I admit it. I've used, and been used by, tent space inmates. But now I can't figure it out! I click on a marker on the map and nothing happens. Help me out! How do I find a tent space in Poland? How did folks find me? Two questions; one answer. Help appreciated! JohnD
Hi John, What sort of device are you on? The maps have always worked fine for me on a Windows computer, but on my iPhone, it only usually works. Unfortunately, I think Google makes periodic changes to its mobile application, and sometimes it breaks things. Jamie
Since retiring I've drifted into the apple world. Was using my iMac. Usually with Firefox. Last summer, I had no problem.
Geez! This is frustrating. I've tried Firefox and Safari, I've tried my iphone and my iPad. Short of buying a Windows device, is there any other hack I can try to be able to click on the map markers and have a name pop up like it used to?
And I JUST tried it, and it WORKED!!! on my iMac. Now for the traveler's companion, Mr. I. Pad I don't understand these mysterious devices...thanks for bearing with me!
So. I am recently retired. Currently planning and preparing for my big trip across the continent to Deadhorse and Tuk starting in April or May of next year. Why am I bothering you with this? Part of my plan is to upload lots of POI data to my GPS. I typically do this through Basecamp. So I wind up converting lots of data with a program I wrote, usually as CSV files and converting them to GPX files for upload. The reason I am wasting everyone's time is because I have converted the Tent Space file to a GPX, but, only for the USA and Canada because that is all I need for my trip. I would share this if people want. Two things are needed for me to do this. The owners must tell me it is OK with them and someone has to tell me that they thinks its useful. If that happens I would be happy to upload the file. If no one wants it, or the owners say no, I'm sorry to waste everyone's time.
I just added What3Words to my navigation profile. If one has a tent-space location that is tricky to find, I recommend this app as it allows the tent-space participant to give very specific directions to the tent space, where to park, etc. Hope this helps.
My efforts to search for this failed: How do we reflect a move on the tent space map? I'll be relocating soon, but want to offer tent space in my new area when that happens, and discontinue offering it where I am now at that point.
Hi CavReconSGT, Congratulations on your retirement (jealous!) I do not see why it could not be shared since the map itself is already public as well as the postings on the tent space listing thread. Also fyi if you need any assistance from me I update the map and can query out specific data if needed. Regards, Tracy
Hey there, new here. The link to google earth so that one can take advantage of tent spaces does not open on an iPhone. Are there newer links that work on iOS? Too bad , it would have been great to meet a few inmates on my soon trip around the west.
Works on my iPhone. To be clear, it opens Google Maps, not Google Earth. Do you know what model iPhone you're using and which version of iOS you have? Jamie
How about which browser you’re using? I just tried it on both an iPad and iPhone running latest iOS and it works in safari. I did have to copy the link and paste it in a new browser window, if I didn’t I got an error of some kind 404 I think. It does not, however, work with Duck Duck Go.
