Well the parts came! I was so relieved. The shop said there’s no telling on Saturdays for parts delivery, but I got what I needed. Today and tomorrow are surgery day. I’ve never done a fork, so that will be good to learn.

JT Sprockets, good choice. Looks like the tips are gone from some of the teeth on the rear as well.

Fork seals are generally easy. Not sure what they are like on a DR, but generally they just pry/pop out. Some forks have a retaining clip that has to pried out first. If you have trouble seating the seal back in, go to a hardware store and buy a PVC pipe coupling of the correct size and use it to apply even pressure to the seal while tapping it in. A drop of fork oil in the outer edge may help also.

Yep got a rear to go on as well. I also need to pick up a chain in the morning, I wasn’t aware until I took the old one off that the DR is a 525.
I sure hope so, supposed to have some help with them tomorrow. I’ll look up some YouTube videos but thanks for the tips! I’ll try them out.

Back on the road today! Still have a leaky fork, but I’m loving the new 14 tooth sprocket in the front. All is good today.

Vicki and I had a great time hosting Warebear for three days. He is a good guy and an excellent Inmate. I’ll vouch for his trustworthiness if anyone else is considering putting him up.

Have a most excellent adventure my friend and the house is yours should you need it on your way back.

Made it to LA last night, stayed the night with an old navy friend. Going to try to contact a shop this morning about these fork seals.

About 150 miles from LA, I put the gps on to avoid highways, i was itching for some more interesting roads. And that it did. It took me up some of the most difficult 2 track I’ve ever done on a bike, and I might have had to go around a couple gates. But it was beautiful, the road was along the top of a mountain ridge where they put all the radio antennas. From the top I could see down either side of the mountain. Still trying to get the pics off my camera, and my helmet mount for the GoPro broke, but here’s some cell phone pics for now.

Laid the bike down one good time, smacked my shin on the handlebars, of course it couldn’t just hit the boot.

Oh! Also, funny story. I didn’t get a picture unfortunately but but I wish I had. I made a wrong turn and went to pop through a median to turn around. Ended up burying the bike in mud up almost passed the swing arm. Over my boots. In front of everyone passing by I’m stuck in the median. Funny story.

Glad you’re doing well and having fun brotha! I hope you get the fork seals sorted in lala land.

I was amused at you buried in the median as people drive by. Kinda like you were on exhibit! Lol

Oh, and be wary of going around gates. That can land you a hefty performance award if you’re caught in Cali. I knew some people that where caught and the rangers gave them hell. Just an FYI.

Supposed to be raining the next 4 out of 5 days down here, so it seems a good time for fork seals.

    Cheers,
