Howdy, tewster2 here with another planning thread for my next series of travels. This time it'll be a bit different as I'll be traveling in my new adventure van (van build thread) with one of my bikes in a small 5x8 foot enclosed trailer.

I want to go to places I love, set up camp, and explore the areas for a few days or weeks at a time on the mighty DR doing wagon wheel rides out and back each day. The van is set up for boondocking totally off the grid. I'm looking forward to getting away from all the noise of daily life and just relaxing along the way.

I've down sized everything I own, sold my properties in NC, sold, given away, or thrown away everything that didn't make me happy, and now just have my small condo in FL for a legal domicile and mailing address.

In April I plan on heading out to one of my favorite places in the world, 3 Step Hideaway in Utah.

I'll be staying there helping Scott and Julie for a month or so.

    3step.jpg

Then I'll head north to Dawson City YT the middle of June for the Dust2Dawson gathering on the solstice. Love the event.

While there, and with a good window of weather, I'll head up the Dempster for a bit....not sure how far I'll go...we'll see.

Then...I may head up the Dalton again...it's one of my favorites.

I'm looking forward to seeing old friends, new friends, and having the best chocolate milkshake in the whole world :thumb

I'm seriously disappointed that you passed on my well thought out idea of a '60's flower power paint job on your van.

Now you will just blend in with all the other vagabond RV'ers.

    Have a great trip.

You'll be livin' the life of Riley Tim... I've lurked your van build and it's coming along nice... I've read a lot of RR where inmates have used basic high roof cargo vans to haul the bike and camping gear... I'm leaning that way as well and maybe a few years down the road...

    best of luck...

I am planning on being in the Moab area sometime in early May with my DRZ400. Deffinatly looking forward to hooking up and checking out the 3 Step Hideaway and hitting the trails around Moab. I’m bringing three things, truck, tent, and motorcycle.

By the way, I believe your chosen pic of the Dempster is a fall color pick...the most gorgeous time of year, but can be dicey, especially on a motorcycle.

    Tim,

You very justifiably probably get more subscriptions before you start something than anybody I
have seen on ADV, and I am one of them.

Really looking forward to your trip but I would like to ask if you would consider taking the Honda? The reason I ask is that I now have an NC and wondered if you have been places where it wouldn't work.

Howdy, I don't have a lot of miles on the NC but will take it on some trips where I won't be doing any gravel. I know many folks take them all over the place but for me it's my touring bike. Love the thing on the road. Only done one sorta long ride on it from FL to north GA to see friends and it was perfect. Thanks for coming along.

I’ve been around just long enough to see how things play out. Tim has what is called a restless soul with a high element of wanderlust. He is in constant search of bliss, but bores quickly and heads in a different, totally unanticipated direction. He has many chapters still yet to write...and he is the last to know what they will be...

I say this with no malice and am truely envious, all in a good way. One thing that never changes is his desire to be around good friends and nice people. It’s just how he arrives at those destinations that seems to change.

I used a set of Anakee 3's on the 700 a couple of years ago up to Deadhorse and loved them...super tough, good milage...put a set on the mighty DR for this spring's stuff...I don't ride mud so they'll be nice...I mostly do easy exploring in the areas I go to because if I fall down and break a hip I'll die for sure :-)

The rear is mounted on a Warp9 3.5x17 complete wheel assembly that I sealed for tubeless about 15,000 miles ago...still holding air :thumb...stuck a 130 on it.
