This will be a spirited ride displaying our individual GS skills in top gear wheelies and stoppies....just kidding. :rofl We will most likely ride the smaller/untraveled paved roads south of Blanco and head towards Fredricksburg, Llano and Mason areas to hit some unpaved roads.

Three of us (on GS's) plan to meet @ 8:30am and depart @ 9:30am (11/30/02). We will meet at small business that serves breakfast tacos, fuel, etc. and is located in the small town of Spring Branch at 281 & FM 311. Map links to this location will soon follow.

No plans for lunch yet, but I wouldn't mind trying some place called Hill Top (?) north of Fredericksburg. I'm open.

If time permits - I'll post highlighted maps of the proposed routes. We can always adjust it that morning or my have to due to the current weather.

Whoever wants to join in post here and let us know.

To see some the roads I ride visit here http://users3.ev1.net/~webnel/MC/mcrides.htm

Note: My routes either paved or unpaved will always go through water crossings (1" - 8" deep). Waterproof boots are very recommended, because if not, you will get wet feet. :cry

It never fails. I run my mouth about getting together for a ride. Someone sets one up and I can't go. :cry

Got the wife and kids home sick this week so I should have it by this weekend :huh

If things change I will try and make the run. If not y'all have a great ride.

    Count me in!!

    Ok, here's the meeting spot.

    Intersection of 281 & 311
There is a gas station, convenience store and bbq joint.

    G & M Backyard Bar B Que
    9650 US Highway 281 N, Spring Branch, TX 78070
    Phone: (830) 885-7347

That should get you to the meeting spot. 8:30am sounds great!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate. As long as we don't have freezing rain....I think it should be fine.

The weather forecast worries me a little. Might be a little wet & chilly. A GS can be interesting on a slick muddy road, but the chance of rain is only 10%.

The weather forecast doesn't look so bad at this point.

Here is the route I like to take out Spring Branch. The reddish highlight is the ideal route and the greenish routes could be used to avoid unpaved roads if too wet. Once just south of Llano there are a lot of roads to explore.

It might be better to right click the links and download for better viewing.

I just sent emails and/or PMs to the usual suspects for Hill Country rides in case they haven't checked the Regional Forum lately.

Let me know if you are staying here, we can meet somewhere. Locally, Park Road 4 is great. Just don't ride it after dark. We did and lost count of the deer in the road.

Hmmm that was a good question... I asked and judging from the look I got back I am led to believe that that may not rank among her favourite passtimes....
Well she agreed to come for a ride tomorrow only if we gonna be back by 6 pm tomorrow therefore I probably just drive down to Austin today and be back tomorrow....
Sorry I have to bail out but I will be there next time.
BTW, feel free to email me directly when you guys go riding...

    Happy riding

Llano is about 4 hrs from Dallas, according to MapQuest. You could do most of the ride and leave at 2:00 in the afternoon. I don't know what the roads will be like. I've taken my wife on some dirt roads and had fun, but some are challenging enough riding solo.

    Formula, is a passenger advisable?

I wouldn't recommend it unless you know the roads well. The passenger would have to dismount at the water crossings and walk across - they can be very slippery just solo! And the gravel can be very loose at times.
