Many killer roads to navigate west and south of ATX. Middle creek rd off 290 out of dripping springs is great. Devils backbone down to Blanco cool but straight out of Wimberley. Hit Hamilton pool rd to shovel mountain rd to marble falls. Head over to Albert dance hall out of fredricksburg for a great burger and beer. Just make a wrong turn and you’ll end up in the right place.

Lots of small out of the way little towns in the Hill Country that would be great to live in. A lot would depend on your definition of "amenities". :D

Good point. I’d like a real grocery store or supermarket within 15-30 min drive and a local pub, coffee shop & diner.

For on road fun: Getting on Old San Antonio Rd, Fischer Rd, 472, and 473 are all good rides out of Fredericksburg. Going west, you will find the Three Sisters or Twisted Sisters. All on Butler's. Definitely good riding! North of Fredericksburg going up to Mason is some great off road. If its rainy the roads dips thru rivers can be real slick. Use caution!
