I am all new to this. I have 2019 GSA and I connected everything through the TFT (phone, helmet, NO nav yet) using it as a hub. Everything works great except I do not get the music menus on the TFT as a saw on youtube. I can play music, I can switch to previous and next song but that is all. No artist, song, etc. menus on TFT. Dealer told me that my phone(LG G7 ThinQ) may not be supported and I need to get a different phone. I guess my question is: is there something I am missing that could help me to get all the menus on the TFT or do I need a different phone. If so can you guys tell me what phones work with the TFT all of the way.
Android phones have less "functionality" than iPhones running through the TFT. But you should be able to see the artist and song title
I too recently picked up a 2019gs and found the same as you. What seems to work is. Have your helmet on, phone unlocked then switch on your bike. Then when all connects you will see your media contents. This works for me. However it can be a bit random? I'm using sena S10 paired only to the tft . IPhone, no nav as yet.
I’m frankly disappointed at what could be controlled (iPhone X). Is there a way to increase/decrease the volume using the selection wheel? Seems crazy to not have the ability to modify the volume...
iPhone have less functionality with TFT than Android. iPhone doesn't show images from incoming callers like Android. iPhones have the most issues connecting to TFT by a country mile judging by peoples comments on this forum.
For calls that may be true. But for music, Android has no playlists or album art. And music is in the thread title.
Same with my Huawei P30Pro and Samsung S10e. No albums list, etc. With the iPhone 10, everything is here. I have the last TFT version. Nice job BMW ;-(
Understandable the Apple ecosystem works great. I switch from Apple to MS to Linux every couple years to help me stay relatively current with technology.
with android you have dual bt audio so everything actually works together with packtalk. Google assistant, cardo app,tft bmw nav app, music, phone, wonderwheel with no skipping or delays. Ill give up the album art on music for no skipping audio it still shows artist and song info on tft and album art on my phone screen not really any big deal.
So there is no android phone that would display the menus? Anybody? And can someone specify the problems with the iPhone, please? Thanks!
I have a a Cardo headset and iPhone X. Everything works seamless though I do control volume via headset not bike. I know a lot of people have issues with the TFT and the BMW Connected app. I have everything running smooth with the phone paired to the TFT not the headset. And the headset paired to the TFT. I think a lot of people have issues with pairing crossover. It should work excellent if everything is paired to the TFT and the TFT meshes everything together. Don’t pair the phone and headset to each other and it “should” work good. YMMV... Also with the BMW Connected app, you don’t need to have the app open. It should automatically connect with the bike when the TFT pairs to your phone at start up.
I’m on Cardo also with my iPhone X, and I was able to navigate the songs via the TFT, but I generally set a specific playlist on shuffle and roll with it. And then when I still had to manually adjust the volume, I thought, well dang, I can just connect to my phone directly. Have you done two helmets through the TFT?
Thanks for the reply. Yes, you are absolutely correct. You need to have everything connected to the TFT otherwise there will be trouble. That is how BMW intended it. I have done it with my Android and was surprised that I did get the short end of the stick-no menus. The volume does not bother me since it is very easy to control on my headset but changing the music while riding I find easier with the WW than with the phone. I think I will have to go shopping for some fruit!
What is the newest TFT update and how do you update it. I got my bike at the beginning of the year, would it have the latest? How do I check? Thanks!
