Some may say yes .
Friday was a day of extremes weather wise and since I had a goal in mind I went there and did that. The day started off like this
On the way up I rode under blue skies
And not so Blue Skies
And on the way back I played Tag with some impressive Thunderstorms and actually managed to dodge one
And although I was on a familiar route I was headed to a place I'd never been before
But my luck was good and just before I arrived the weather for a couple of hours anyway was picture perfect,
And the destination I was after was........
Just did a four day motorcycle tour of the Adirondacks with my two brothers last week. We planned the ride for months and revisited some of the areas where we spent summers at our folk's cabin on Brant Lake. A wonderful trip down memory lane, we plan on doing it again next year. However, looking at your amazing pictures, I think we need to reassess waiting that long for another trip!
Definitely reassess and seriously consider coming back in the fall
The Wild Center, 45 Museum Drive Tupper Lake
I've passed the sign for this many times and never gave it a second thought until I read somewhere they had opened a new feature called The Wild Walk, so I checked out their website and it looked like a place to visit.
Consisting of a natural history museum of The Adirondacks, nature trails, a rotating schedule of presentations and the afore mentioned wild walk it's well worth a stop, with one caveat - go when school starts and the crowds will be more manageable
This is the atrium where the entrance is located
The exhibits are to the right while to the left there's a small museum story and a cafeteria
Turtles have their own web cam and heat lamp
The cafeteria has your usual pre made sandwiches, soups and salads. $9.18 for a roast beef and a bottle of water. If you score a seat outside or at the counter the pond is table height and you can check put turtles, fish and whatever else lives in there
This is the pond trail
Theres plenty of other trails but this one was the most picturesque

Just came back from a 2 night stay at Limekiln lake. Love riding around the Adirondacks and all he things it has to offer. One of my favorite roads was the Big moose road that goes between Inlet and Lowville. Not major off roading on this track but it felt like it with my fully loaded GSA pig . Cant wait to go back next year!
Heading out tomorrow for 5 days through the Adirondacks to Vermont and then back through home.
Great thread, awesome pics! This is the first year in awhile I didn't do any 'Dack rides. Spring/early summer it just never came together with weather or timing. Went out west this summer and then had surgery on my foot so I never got the rides in. Next year for sure.
Incrediblt awesome!!I'm fond of your photograph which serves me a visual feast of nature.
My Pleasure, fall is here and the weather has been pretty damn nice, we're about a week behind in foliage from last year which I'm hoping bodes well for a milder winter
Excellent , glad you had a good trip
Perfect, hope it went well
Out west is good, heres wishing you a speedy recovery from the surgery
Thanks so much
It was early morning yesterday, I was up before the dawn
And I really have enjoyed my stay, but I must be moving on
Like a king without a castle, like a Queen without a Throne
I.m an early morning lover and I must be moving on,
But I will go on shining, shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me my troubles will be few - Supertramp, Goodbye Stranger
This was October 4th, last year on this date the colors were peak and a bit past peak in some areas. I'm guessing we're about a week late this year
Route 86 between placid and Wilmington
Behind The Hungry Trout
Below was October 3rd last year in the same spot
Route 73 this year
And the same spot last year October 3rd
So Sunday And Monday are looking good weather wise and if all goes well I.m riding at least one of those days and hoping to see some vivid colors
The vast expanse of the Adirondacks beckon us to explore them by two wheels as the beauty they hold always refreshes my soul. Your photos of your riding experiences so vividly capture those found in any publication I've seen! I never tire of the ADK riding in all of my years and appreciate what's right in my backyard! Happy riding to all!
Still riding or has the season come to an end in the north country?
Lord almighty does this thread have legs or what? 2010 holy cow. Great pics!
Dad's buried in the Keene cemetery, just a tiny bit NE of where you took your pics where the Spruce hill (9N over from E'town) comes down and joins with NY73. That view of Porter's shoulder, with the barn and meadow, looked the same all his life, as it has for mine.
Now he's got almost the same view.
Gramps is buried in Jay, two hamlets up 9N, and his is a view of Jay mountain.
This New England enough?
hey, prometheus, hope all is well with you and yours.
Haven't seen anything from him in quite awhile, hoping all is well Buddy
