Did I miss something?
You guys going some where?
Heading to California right now.
Damn! It's a beautiful day, enjoy the ride.
We had to re-route yesterday as the Hickman-Dorena ferry is still closed for high water. Going on three weeks out of service now. Aren't too many places to cross the mighty Mississippi, and we came across the next bridge south of Hickman, west of Dyersburg, TN.
I had some brief notations with the pictures yesterday, but posted everything in another inmate's ride report. Was unable to just move everything to the proper thread using this computer.
Lots of Civil War history in western TN, rode about 20 miles of the Natchez Trace Parkway, saw high water near the river.
I remember this place. Cudabud and I stopped here also 2 yrs. ago and got some photos here.
Wow, lotta water there. Be safe.
Spent last nite in Kimmett Mo after having to alter our route due to flooding on the mississippi closing the hickmam ferry. Found a decent motel right on our rt for 56 dollors including tax. Had a great breakfast at Johns pancake house. Highly recomended, great food, wonderful waitress. reasonable price.
Rode all day in terrible wind stopping severl times to take pictures. Saw a lot of flooding in central Mo. Several rivers looked to be around 20 or more feet out of their banks. Lots of houses covered half way up the roof.
Tonight we are in Joplin Mo in a motel 6. They left the light on for us and gave us an old folks discount too boot, 56 dollors again. Opa will be intertaining you with some of his wonderful picture takin shortly so check back later. Here are several teasers I took too.
check out this tree that fell just in front of us blocking the whole road. Luckily some guys behind us had a chainsaw and Opa helped them cut and clear the road.
Keep those photos coming, Augie! It's the only way I get action shots of Opa.
Across the street from breakfast, cotton seed storage.
Augie spotted this roadside display promoting a flea market. Note the flag, this was before the wind got serious.....
Flat rich farmland
Another full waterway
Field about ready
We found a few miles of gravel road for a short cut. We are stopped on the left side of the road to let some traffic pass us without us being in their dust storm
Note the dust cloud behind Augie
One of many farmers working the fields that we saw in this stretch
Barn shot. This is probably no more than five miles from the previous shot. Great difference in the topography
Another bank full water way
We had some really interesting roads today! If you ever get near here, US 160 is awesome, at least before it turns straight north, we didn't ride up that way.
No shots of the really good parts, too busy riding!
The tree did not fall on the truck. He pulled his 'old truck' up to see if he could push it out of the way. Another fellow showed up with a chain saw at the same time.
We stopped for gas in the next town. Saw this across the street.
The augiedog diet plan
On the road again
Another full lake
This is at Forsyth, MO. The water is Lake Taneycomo. Or perhaps another full, well over full water way.
Couple more water shots
Spotwalla of the ride.
I'll take storms & flooding any day over that bleak, bleak southern route.
Slowed the pace today. Did sight seeing on Rt 66. Visited. See post 116 for the Spotwalla to see where we were. Tulsa ranks right up there with Charlotte NC as an excellent place to stay away from.
Turning off the 4 lane onto a stretch of old 66.
Down the road a bit
Around the next corner
This collection is visible from the last photo in the previous post.
Entering Galena, KS.
