    Are we going anywhere today?

Until we do, I'll just lay in the sun where I can watch the driveway.

Interesting to see working type dogs laying in front of fires.

Current and past dogs won't and wouldn't go near a fire, open or in a firebox. Even when camping in cold weather they prefer(red) to sit behind me rather than in direct heat radiation from the campfire.

Slab is insulated about a metre square under fire so I can dead set assure you it is toasty where they're laying. The littlle one ( Yazi ) is 6 months old. Picked her up the week before Christmas from Condo when it was 45c. She doesn't appear to like the cold down here. Was sitting looking at the fire like it was a TV. Also appears to be a natural sweimmer as well. First time she saw the dam ran aaround it for a minute, splashed her foot a few times & then started doing laps like she'd been doing it all her life. ( Which was only 4 months at the time) They only get inside at moments through the day when its shit outside like it has been last 2 days but both are warm weather dogs.
Was 8 yesterday & think it topped at 10 today. At least we have had good slow rain for last couple of days. ( She is also a dead set guts at well, constantly "starving"!)

Apparently the dog doesn't like my wife's driving.

In his defence, I told her "at least he tried to get it out the window"

Reasonably recent Ron. Bout 1/2 hr ago.

Right foot mate. You can barely make out the scar. Should have been a seamstress!

Minnie, in the coat, is 16; Annie, the sandy one, is eight; and we don't know how old Ruben is as he's a foundling but probably about 12 - all pound dogs.

Minnie is the one who saved our lives by alerting us when the pink batts set the house on fire a few hours after being installed without the downlight covers we paid for.

That's a great age for a breed their size, must be getting very well looked after.

Yes, we've never had a GSD get past 12 previously - and she's a big girl too. She did come from very good lines.

She is just a little bit spoilt.

It's ironic how my life has turned full circle. When I was in primary school and before I thought of becoming a helicopter pilot my ambition was just to earn enough money to take in all the stray dogs I came across.

Apart from adopting a few rescue dogs, my wife and I now support quite a few charities that do just that.

We are more than repaid: every morning Ruben and Annie roll around the bedroom bowing, biffing, playing dead blowie and chewing on each other accompanied by all the weird noises Annie can come up with. Hard to start a day in a bad mood after that.
