I wanted to post Tom Maxwell's Half the Man in the music videos section but it doesn't look like it's on YouTube.

I've got the Bushmans Dreaming CD that it's on so if someone can guide me on how to upload the track directly to ADV I'll do so.

The lyrics really apply for my old mate Ruben.

These are the late Ray Rose's lyrics:

Here and there through life I've often taken a turn I knew was wrong,
On the one hand showed a weakness when I should have been more strong.
But this old dog that walks beside me, he just doesn't give a damn.
Lord, if I was only half the man this old dog thinks I am.
    No, I don't have riches, a big home, a fancy car;
My home's a thousand miles of road: my roof's a million stars.
But I can count the friends I'd count on on the fingers of one hand.
Lord, if I was only half the man this old dog thinks I am.
Long ago I knew the pleasures of an easy-come lifestyle,
Rubbed shoulders with the well to do with their all too easy smile.
From the top down to the bottom I drew the devil's hand.
Lord, if I was only half the man this old dog thinks I am.
He doesn't care to know the reason behind my rise and fall,
And I tell him we're much closer than the ones who have it all,
And we can count the friends we would count on on the fingers of one hand.
Lord, if I was only half the man this old dog thinks I am,
Lord if I was only half the man this old dog thinks I am.

Look what's happened at my place. A maiden ewe, twin lambs, she didn't like the first one and she wouldn't stop still long enough for the second one to feed. So, two poddy lambs, the last thing I need right now. The dogs are perplexed, to put it mildly.

Well, that takes some bleating (especially at feeding time)...

My neighbours have got one & when they decided it was old enough to move out of their yard into the paddock between us, it decided to keep finding its way into my yard. I'd hear it bleating for attention outside & go out to catch it to shove back under the fence. Just today I suggested to 'em that I might submit a bill for agisting it. As it happens I think it has finally got the idea that it;s not welcome on this side of the fence.

You've got a couple of months (at least) of fun to 'enjoy'.

So, we all seem to think sheep are a bit dim. Check these out. 3 days old, already learned to camp by the fire.

Annie very pleased with herself about to pick the birthday ball, the bright yellow one closest to her.
    fetch.jpg

Saturday was Annie's ninth birthday and my wife had the fur children playing ball in a swale drain. For some reason Annie dropped her favourite (so far indestructible) ball to pick up another one and the fave rolled into a drain hole - lost.

But wait! Later on Saturday there was a Goldilocks amount of rain: not a thunderstorm to flush all the balls over the barriers into the Murrumbidgee but enough to transport them to the grates across the stormwater drains.

So when I got home from my ride and learned of the tragedy I knew there was hope. Off we went yesterday morning to the grate about four kilometres away from where the ball escaped and there it was waiting to be reunited with its relieved owner.
