I do this, too. It's highly unlikely you'd open them up and see anything bad, but I can't help myself; I'm the same way with steering heads. Be very careful not to bend them. Those seal rings are rubber coated, but they are thin steel and can crease. When you put the seal rings back, just ensure the rubber lips are all seated around the circumference.

not sure of any one here that has owned a 2016-2019 and gone to a 2020.
I'll have no fork issues, otherwise a bit more power, Tube less tires on ATAS, a lot more buttons and CC.
Pretty sure there's a 2020 AT forum, have a look in there.

Has anyone found a tail bag they like on their AT? I'm currently rocking a Wolfman Blackhawk tank bag and it's nice, but don't think it'll work with the air deflector thing that goes around the forks.

I used a Wolfman tail bag in the place of the rear seat on both of my 2005 and 2009 R1200 GS's. I'm currently looking at the Chase Harper 4502 tail "trunk", but am pretty sure it's too big for the AT.

Id keep using a tank bag - I found I still got the annoying “snap” buffeting even with the deflector installed, but the Giant Loop tank bag the bike I got came with totally eliminates it.

Here are some pics from Sunday's ride to Petite's Gap off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a little bit north of the Peaks of Otter.

Good to know. That might stick with the Blackhawk over the deflector then.

I'd still like a tail bag though for carrying a few more items if anyone has a recommendation they'd like to share.. Like a water bottle and hopefully a tenkara rod. The tank bag is full of camera crap.

Ah neat, I was on the north side around Luray / Skyline! It was quite misty on the Eastern side of the ridge that morning.

It was raining in the morning here, and was very surprised when the sun came out. It got almost hot here, and very windy later in the afternoon.

I need to try one of those shorter screens for the incoming VA summer.

My OEM screen went in a box at 249 miles and hasn't seen daylight since. This short screen works in the winter too.

So worth it. Gets rid of the buffeting also. Well in my case.

I'm using the Wolfman Peak tail bag on a Black Dog pillion rack. I also ran the Giant Loop Klamath in the same location. Wolfman is expandable and will hold a water bottle on top, while the Klamath is water resistant. Both work well.

Congrats on the bike. I saw that one for sale last year. I'm just down the road in Blacksburg.

I just ran the tank bag straps under the air deflector, it works fine and the tank bag (Wolfman Explorer) sits back far enough that I have full access to the fuel cap when refueling. I also occasionally use a Wolfman tail bag too but don't like how it gets in the way of swinging a leg over the seat to mount up.

    Good carrying capacity to ya!
