Wow, I worked in the US from 2000-2006, and never saw this before. But I haven't been back in a few years. I'm actually making a trip today, so we'll see what happens.

Just got back from a road trip to North Carolina and back. NC, VA, PA, NY, and home.

About 50% of the gas stations required the zip code billing (the more rural you are, the less likely they will ask for the zip code).

I used the technique in this thread and it worked every time.

    :clap

yyeeeaah, baby. Here's hoping this workaround stays open for a long time!

Working most of the time is a leg up over having to stand in the line at the cash twice. :thumb

I just frinished a 7500 kms,12 days ride through the USA,Idaho down to Kentucky, then up to Maine, only once in New York State did I have to punch in a zip code and it did work for me.:thumb It stated right on the pump that it is for fraud prevention.:nono

But amazing as to how much corn they are now growing down there just so they can put the juice in the gas....often at more than the stated 10%, my bike sure runs much better on good old expensive Canadian gas.:nod

I tried "90210" at the pump in Borrego Springs, CA when I was there last week....didn't work for me. AMEX.

I just got back from a trip through NY, Vermont and NH -- my chipped visa worked fine for the gas pumps and none prompted me for zip code.

The other clue is, they typically do this at the gas stations in shittier areas, 'hoods or areas of higher crime. Once you get into the outer burbs, the requirement sometimes is not seen, just my experience and I live down here.

We just returned from the MOA Rally in Oregon, with a stopover in California for a few days beforehand. The zipcode generator worked everywhere it was needed, all the way across the country and back! Thanks for a great tip!

A while back I travelled to all 4 corners of Washington state and used my Visa for all the fuel on my trip. I filled up primarily at Chevron automated pumps and never had a request for a zip code. Prepaying sucks...

While traveling through Nevada in the wee hours of the morning, low on fuel in some small nameless town and nothing else open I tried the only Zip code that I could think of...90210. It worked.
