Nicely balanced test match. Aussie's a little too reliable on Smith so far. Sheesh is he an annoying fidget. England missing Anderson badly.

I’m probably one of a few Aussies that believes that after the South African incident Smith and especially Warner and Bancroft should have life bans

To me, a life ban seems harsh. One year seems a little lenient.

England without Anderson, or at least another strike bowler like Archer, at a serious disadvantage. Nevertheless, a very impressive batting performance yesterday.

Not harsh at all I believe. It’s cheating in the purist form of the game.

Warner is a turd, Bancroft a fool and Smith may not have known directly what was being hatched but his choice as Captain to ‘not know what you two are up to’ frankly doesn’t cut it.

He’s now lauded here as the equivalent of Bradman ! Maybe in skill but as far as what cricket IS all about he’s far from being Btadmans boot lace, but that’s my opinion.

Bradman was a brilliant cricketer and an asshole too, maybe the comparison is valid. Warner should be out for for life, the other two I'm not so sure. I can see arguments for and against. But Warner was in it up to his neck, and in a position of responsibility. No defence, tear up his contract and never to be re-employed.

Solid win. Bring on Lord's next week. We'll try and field a full compliment of fit bowlers this time. :lol3

There are collapses and there are COLLAPSES - MCC Middle order looks very sad Wildy - Surely some changes, Anderson Injury etc- only one touted for OZ Siddle out Starc in .. well depends on the pitch and the tour Match against Worcestershire, but honestly some of those shots

    - From what Boycott was saying he expects Lords pitch to turn more - New Green-keeper ... will be interesting.

Bravo Jimmy Anderson, he could have stayed in the dressing room but showed plenty of courage in a fairly hopeless situation to play on injured

The match was won on day four. One strike bowler down, England had little to offer against a good batting performance from the Aussies. Once the run chase was out out of reach, England were never going to bat all day.

I think we'll keep faith with the batting. Maybe Roy's position is up for a bit of debate. Move Root back to four. We'll bring in Archer for Anderson, who's just been ruled out of the second test, and hopefully Leach for Ali, who's bowling was lacklustre, and can't buy a run in red-ball cricket.

Pretty much what I expected from England - they still seem to be having a bit of a hangover from the World Cup (only country to have won the football, cricket and rugby world cup ? :D). Not sure it's going to get any better the next test without Jimmy.

Totally agree about Warner - he's a complete and utter twat. As for Smith, damn, he can bat.

    Ho. Lee. Crap!

What a test match. What an innings from Stokes.

All square with two to play. Would never had dreamt that would be the position 48-hours ago.

England win the 5th Test at the Oval. Series drawn. Australia retain the Ashes.

Well played Aussies. Undoubtedly the best team throughout the series. I think if England had both Wood and Anderson fit, it would have been closer, but in Smith and Labuschagne, you had the two batsmen of the series.

    See you in Aus.
