    Gotta admit - I don't hate it.
Not nearly enough to paint it.

It is surprising how narrow the whole package is now, actually. Without additional frames for the bags, they seem to fit within the width of the mirrors - although I didn't actually measure.

Now if only we could filter...

Got the bags, the Air Hawk pad, installed a Zero Gravity touring screen...

just ordered the Jaws Bar kit and peg lowering bits. Soon to be in full-on touring mode. Think I'll try the Pilot 4 on the rear in hopes of exceeding the current limit of 3k miles.

    Looks good.
I did not care for the PR4s on the BB - sticking with PP3 - if my notes are correct they have held well past 8000 miles. However, I rarely ride with a passenger or luggage nor for long distances at a clip. So tires tend to last a bit longer under those conditions.

    Thanks @gixxersteph

What was the issue with the 4's?
I've got the PP3's with the 2ct compound now and I'm at the wear bars at 3.2k miles. No 2 up or luggage (till now) just a fat bastard (240) with an itchy wrist apparently.

PR4's work best for me on an FJR-type bike. On a Blackbird they inhibit really quick aggressive cornering, they feel heavy and don't feel like they're pressing into the pavement. The Metzeler Z8 front let me do whatever I wanted to on my XX, and lasted a long time too.

Tire discussions are often are worse than oil threads though so, JMHO

I second Drop Center's reply. I couldn't quite remember why the PR4s did not 'feel' right and indeed it was a vague feeling that made me more than happy to remove them - when or at least close to when they were done. As for my weight - we are similar but I guess I am riding less aggressively.

Anyone remember if the taller stacks belong in the center?
I guess I didn't realize the height difference when I pulled them...

Good, because that's the way I screwed 'em down. Seemed logical due to the air box dimensions. Thanks :thumb

I had my '02 for 10 years and thinking of going back to an '03 near me. However I've had a lot of really fun bikes ever since and like the ST1300 I had briefly, I fear my memory of my Blackbird is better than what I remember it being. It was hot in the city seem to only shine in the corners when I was pushing really hard and riding it well. My ZX14R for example was awesome.

Anyone go back to an XX a like it just as much?

Has anyone done a balance shaft adjustment on their birds?

I'm trying to track down some engine noises, and it led me there. Just wondering how much work I'm looking at here since there are no videos around and the pics from the cbrxx threads are long gone, and even the service manual is vague on the subject.

The CCT would be the prime suspect, unless it is new or low mileage.

I have put several on my 80k mile XX.

Just shoved an APE one on there to see if it helps, but it's not that. Brand new OEM double-dot went on last summer before that.

    So then that's not it.

My buddy and I have adjusted the balancers on his XX, after having the case split to replace transmission gears.

It was quite some time ago and I don't remember the exact process, but If we figured it out anyone can. We pretty much used the factory service manual on the whole job that we did.

    Good luck!

Valve check and adjust were done by a Honda dealer a couple months ago, although I do remember the bike being a tiny bit noisier after picking it up. Hmm...
