I originally bought that '00 DR650 back in about 2003, then sold it to a buddy, then bought it back about two years later for FatWife, then sold it to Dysco after she got her 1150GS! So this would then be the third time I bought that bike if it ever shows up again!
updated wolfman side racks w/ hard bag mount option. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=729632
Corbin or sargent for the highway? Been looking at the russell day longs, but im not too keen on the looks...
I felt the same way about the DL1000 that I owned. It was a great bike, and cruised effortlessly on the highway, but was just too much bike for me. The power was intoxicating, but completely unnecessary, so I sold it.
i know the pic. that DR had turbocity racks, then a madstad vstrom bracket bolted to it then the stock vstrom shield on the madstad. you can't bolt the vstrom to the oem fairing. you want all that just get a madstad vstrom screen is nothing to right home about. http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.1921/.f or just put ceebaileys sport or b-king laminar to the oem fairing http://www.ceebaileys.com/suzuki/dr650z400ws.html http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html#bodyframe
Ended up with a Sargent, love it so far. I'm going to do a 200 mile trip on Saturday, while 2-up, hopefully it works out well. I also have a parabellum on order. I'm 5'8" and got the 23", hopefully that works out well too!
cool. hopefully the parabellum works out for you. http://www.parabellum.com/stores/showdetl.cfm?&DID=22&Product_ID=44&CATID=4 had one on my r1100r and even though it big it's still buffeted really bad and since it was fixed it couldn't adjust it. i prefer what Madstad offers as his design offer infinite adjust-ability and it allows air to come up the backside and have laminar flow. backside laminar flow is THE key to smooth air at your helmet and i don't see that in the parabellum, that is unless you are looking through it and the bad air is above your helmet.
I had a 1998 DR650 that I used primarily on pavement with the occasional search for gravel or dirt, of which there isn't much in northern Indiana. I tarted it up with a 19" front wheel, stainless brake line, IMS 5 gallon tank, Corbin seat, Spitfire windshield, Dual Star center stand, SuperTrapp exhaust, revised jetting and Dirt Bagz. The only picture I have of it sucks, but here it is all loaded up in the middle of a 5 week, 8500 mile ride on back roads to the Olympic Peninsula and back - The bike ran flawlessly, even with my overly-rich jetting changes. If I had it to do over again I would lace up a wider rim for the back, but other than that it was a do-it-all bike, even when called upon to keep up with traffic on the interstates. When I had this bike I also owned a ZRX1100 and I found myself riding the DR650 most of the time.
makes me want to sing Purple Rain for some reason. i'm not too concerned about fabbing up a bracket for the screen, just thought it might be a cheap and relatively small shield to try. plus it looks factory.
It was an aftermarket piece - probably a Maier "Superbike." There wasn't much aftermarket stuff available for the DR650 10 years ago, at least much that I could find. And on the topic of the purple fork gaiters - you should have seen it with the factory yellow ones in combo w/ the purple frame... it was uniquely unattractive.
