My local mom & pop hardware store has a very nice selection of metric fasteners including these. IIRC these are 6mm x 1 socket heads about 15mm long.

I think I'm at the point where I've replaced all my stripped out JIS screws via Phillips with allen heads. :D

You can find a JIS screwdriver in your stock tool kit.

That's some suspect advice right there.

I guess they serve blue drinks.

I was hoping you were headed to LAB2V. This morning I was wondering if a DR would be a good choice for that ride. In one video I saw the rider called out an Africa Twin but everything I saw was KTM or Husky.

I wish they had more of that around here. Everyone wants crazy "combat" style courses and/or 3 gun.

We do an annual "Coke Ovens" ride that takes place at the same time as the B2V event. I typically lead the crazies down that hell hole magnificent bonus loop so I'm on the hook for that ride.

There are a few of the regulars that will be going to B2V instead this year. I think attendance to our annual ride is going to be way low because of it. maybe next year I'll do that but it kinda seems like a dustbowl to me. There's some deep sand sections on some, if not most of the route so I'm not entirely sure that the DR is the best bike for it but I don't have first -hand experience with it.

And, if you put a handle on it you can actually grip, it becomes useful....

Snap On doesn't sell a JIS screwdriver by the way, I tried buying one.

I figured I'd try the suggestions in order. The vise grips broke them free. Thanks for that!

In off topic humor: Today has been an off day and it began last night when I got home from hockey practice to learn my 4 year old went a little crazy at daycare and pulled down another kids pants and then put his face in his butt. WTF was he thinking. My 7 yr. old reads books like an addict and is leading his grade in book reviews and my younger one sticks his face in friends butts. I actually had to have a serious talk with him about not sticking his face in other people's butts. He's primed for making some sort of list before he's 6 that requires him to notify the neighborhood of said list and him being on it. Bloody hell!

I've read that kids often pick up things they catch their parents doing.

I missed your follow-up post by 6 minutes, but...when I had to remove the four OEM screws from the BST-40 on DR #1, I simply asked my neighbor/riding partner to hold the carburetor body as firmly as he dared, whilst I pushed and turned on each screw head, with a JIS driver and with all of the might that I dared. We were rewarded with 4 cracks in short order. There would have been no way to attend to that task solo.

I think you missed a perfect opportunity to introduce him to Marquis de Sade books. Good ole Marquis used to take prostitutes home, give them laxative chocolates, then wait for them to be good and ready so that he could suck the farts out of their butts.

Can you tell I'm a fan of that guy?!

    :loco

(but seriously, excellent author. Maybe not for a 4 year old just yet though)

I removed the carby and had it on the bench. There's no way to put it in a vice. My neighbor was a mechanic for 40 + years. Any time he sees me with a tool in my hand he runs inside his house. So physically I qas on my own so I turned to the brain trust. :)

Vise grips worked like a charm. It only took an 8th of a turn to crack it loose. And it didn't feel like I needed as much force as with a screwdriver.

It's being installed back in the bike now. Did the airbox mod and just need to do the exhaust tonight. Gas tank tomorrow and should be running by afternoon.

    Just jinxed it, I know.
