I have been riding Summit Level and Swiss Ranch for years without any problems from locals. The most recent was about 2 months ago on my 1090. Hard pack with some ruts but no real issues.

Don’t know of any dirt sections on Avery Sheep Ranch though

Jesus Maria is a fun road but a little beat up in places. I lead a few riders who were on touring bikes through there a few weeks ago and they were not happy. No dirt. Paved all the way.

    Thanks for all your responses...

Funny thing, I have ridden all of the mentioned paved roads with a 12 speed, 19 lb bicycle.

Fricot City, Dog Town, Jesus Maria, etc. All Great stuff !

After 40 years in the 88 Carson Pass area, Sheep Ranch and West Point still freaks me out cause of the history of
Serial killers, etc. (Leonard Lake, Wilseyville, etc.)

Swiss Ranch and Summit Level are on the hit list. !

Beat up is part of why it's so much fun!

Sheep Ranch didn't figure into that story, did it? And speaking of local history, I just googled up an article on the Fricot family. Interesting. Loosely tied in with the Hearsts also, via Sheep Ranch.

I wish I could help you, but the only time I tried Summit Level Road I was alone and on a KTM 350 dirt bike. It was too rough for my meager dirt riding skills, so I aborted after a couple miles and backtracked.

I believe I road Swiss Ranch Road once, but I don't remember anything about it except that my intention was to be on SHEEP ranch road instead and I had made a wrong turn... likely aborted that one too.

I have ridden Fricot City road all the way through from 49 to Sheep Ranch several times. It has a large amount of dirt and I am not fond of dirt.

It's kind of weird in that near the top you ride through this school that I believe is some kind of institution for troubled kids. Got strange vibes, but no trouble.

There aren't any. It's all paved. Patches on patches, but still it's paved.

I rode it once. Didn't like it much, the devastation from the fire was pretty unpleasant to ride through.

They are clean and amazing. I hit Tioga, Sagehen, Sonora, Ebbets, Monitor, Carson, Conway, Devil’s Gate, and Luther. Damn it was awesome!! A few of them have also been recently resurfaced

I drove 4 yesterday after the work was completed. The only change I could see was new pavement on the lower of the two Elbow hairpins. If anything else was done, I did not spot it.

I rode 4 and Monitor to Walker yesterday. No cleanup was done on the lousy repair, turns still had the marbles scattered around. Looks like they used cold patch it was that bad. Also the ranchers are driving the cattle down the pass from the high country. There is cow shit everywhere and will get much worse. I saw at least 4 large cattle trailers waiting for pickup. It will be a unique shity experience when it rains. Through the years we have had to wait for the roundup to pass by. It was kinda cool though to watch the Border Collies work the herd

It's never been money for me, but since I only encounter it when out enjoying myself, it definitely smells like "play time". I'll take it as long as it doesn't slip and slide under my tires.

This is not the seasonal closure, just a temporary one due to the minor snowstorms passing through.
