Only one ice ride. After all the effort of swapping tires, rejetting and rebuilding my forks. I went one time. Then the Nenana fell apart. 8D9A4DD4-5126-4B85-AED2-9FC59D7BBACE.jpeg 1B30A20E-783C-4522-BD7F-394C8CA6162F.jpeg

Not to worry though, the e-fatbike and sled powered many adventures this winter.

Among the many outings on the Nenana and Jack rivers.

A run out to the Yanert Glacier. That ride would’ve been possible on my ice bike. Totally!

I rode up the highway and down to Broke Foot Beach and up in Panorama gravel pit. Blue skies, brown caribou, green dirt bike.

Funny that I won’t take my Versys out with expired tags and no insurance, but ride a no-apologies dirt bike up the highway.

I’ll let you know as soon as I get there. I have been in NC/TN for the past 3 weeks enjoying summer/fall. Just got back to Fairbanks last night. Scored four great days of dirt biking with my brother in eastern Tennessee and saw a Jason Isbell show at the Ryman in Nashville! Now it’s time to face reality. Thanks for the beach update.

Facing reality. The trend is the whole damn planet is warming. @Colemanfu , as much as days in the 90's or more suck for you guys, tropical typhoons parked in the Bering sea bringing chinook winds and rain and mid 30's suck here. Grey wet and slushy. I haven't dared venture out on any ice even on foot. One could Kayak the river in its present state. The long range forecast is for a warm wet winter here. I hold out optimism because it's still only October. We will still hopefully see decent winter conditions.

I read that snow in the Range at altitude is 60" from the Eastern Alaska Range Avalanche Center. Snow came in Fairbanks and abruptly left. Ground was getting hard, now its not. Mud. not ideal.

Finally a taste of real Alaskan winter. 2" of snow fell on Christmas Eve, then it dropped back down to 25 below and God's Own Airnozzle turned that 2" into consolidated drifts in inconvenient locations. Spent 2 hours snow blowing the road at 23 below today. The Silver Lining: The Ice is Nice. The on-ramp to the Jack river is frozen up and blown glare better than I've seen in years meaning I can access the Goods right from my driveway! My 200 is spiked up, re-jetted and ready to rip. Please let it warm back up to single digit temps.

Saturday was 25 below, Sunday, when I rode, it warmed to 20 above, today it was 35 above in Cantwell and 3 below in Healy! Mountain weather! God drove His Zamboni down the Jack and through Windy Pass. Please let it cool back down to single digits.

That day in late December was the one ride on the spiked 200 for the winter. Lately, with temps in the teens overnight, the trails are bulletproof in the morning. Out on the beach, it’s mixed gravel, hard snow and decaying river ice. This stuff has traction like riding on pavement. Perfect for dialing in the new 300!
