Butler Co Gravel Days will originate in at the Twisted Oz Motorcycle Museum in Augusta KS on May1. Self guided tours through the magnificent Flint Hills area of south central KS. The first days ride will end at a large ranch where camping and food is provided. Live music, grill-your-own brauts, burgers and dogs, and lots of door prizes for participants for a minimum donation of $55.00. All proceeds go to the Forgotten 22 non-profit to benefit veterans suffering from PTSD and other combat related issues. Sunday’s rides will again be self-guided and Oh so scenic. Breakfast is at the historic Beaumont Hotel. Plenty of primitive camping, RVs welcome with a limited number of improved campsites offering full hook-ups for an added fee.
Pm for more details or go to ButlerCountyGravelDays facebook page
Sorry, I didn't know that our web address wasn't up yet.
Gravel grinding bicycle routes are also included in this event! Ride the exact roads of the world famous “Dirty Kansa”

Hi Overlander! I saw the self-guided tours will there be any maps or GPXfiles provided? Also, I may truck my CRF250 in (registered), is it okay to leave a vehicle at the museum and camp Friday night at the museum. Really interested in the event and very much want to support the Forgotten 22.

Found the FB page, but not much there except location

    Thank you,
    Dale402

Dale, you might consider camping at Beaumont, KS on Friday night. Beaumont is about 25 miles from Augusta and only a few miles from the Ranch where dinner will be served Saturday night.

Thanks! I’ll look into that. Sounds like a better alternative than packing up twice. Appreciate it.

Thanks, Dale we will allow vehicles to have safe areas to park and we will have routes by printed maps, ride leaders, and Rever files with several routes to follow.

Hey I'm planning on attending this!
I need to convert the GPX tracks to routes so my auto GPS can use them.

Would you post them on here ASAP please?

Sorry but maps will be available also. There are several routes to follow and explore. That part was put together by another member and he'll be able to deal with qestions at sign-in on Sat morning. It is not a rigid route but suggestedd roads to explore and the ending point on Saturday evening will be the only hard destination. Riders meeting at 9:00.

I’ll be at the camp working Friday and you’re welcome to ride! There’s lots of interesting things to do in the flinthills! I’m working on GPX downloads for you also!

Hey, Lee! Long time! I don't do Facebook, but saw your Facebook details for this event. I plan to attend--riding down with ajayhawkfan.

I like some of the mystery around the details, but between missing details and potentially confusing details, I wonder if some folks just aren't sure what's going on.

    For example:
    • check in 8am-10am @ Twisted Oz motorcycle museum where GPS coordinates will be revealed
    • Riders meeting at 9:00
I assume the above details mean to check in at the museum in Augusta between 8 and 10 am on Saturday. So is that Rider's meeting at the camp at 9 pm on Saturday? Or is it 9 am Sunday morning? You can't have a rider's meeting at 9 AM on Saturday while also having check in between 8 and 10 in Augusta.

Are "Rever files" a proprietary format or just a standard GPX file? If Rever-specific, obviously only useful for Rever users---perhaps the intent is to get more folks to sign up for Rever? I have no doubt the popular Rever app can import a GPX file, so I hope there will be a GPX file shared--glad to hear you are considering that.

Sharing a GPX file on location is kind of too late for lots of folks since they need WiFi to get the GPX file into their storage and onto their device. This would be true for a phone using the Rever app as well--you need data to pull down the tracks. Lots of folks use dedicated phones without a data plan--opting to download what they need on their home WiFi before heading out.

If someone coming from a longer distance wanted to camp on location Friday night, is there a way to get the coords without going to Augusta between 8 and 10 am on Saturday? (Sharing a GPX file before the event would solve this of course.)

LOVE that you guys are putting this together and hoping to turn it into an annual event! I haven't ridden that area in many years, so looking forward to exploring this weekend! THANKS!

    Same questions I have.
There should *NOT* be any mystery in this process. Especially if you want people (me) to attend.

Sorry it took a while to address the questions you have about this. First off, the routes are something that was not my specific respondsibility to secure therefore I am currently figuring out how to upload them from one of the other promoters nav files to here. I also work a fulltime job. I'll do my best to have them up here this evening. Next in line is that we are NOT leading rides and NOT limiting the riders to follow one designated route. That sounds like NO fun to me having 75+ riders single file on dusty roads behind a ride leader so instead were are offering several options and routes to veiw those features of the flinthills that we have come to enjoy. This means that riders can take in several different areas but not be forced to follow each other by a designated GPS route. This allows a certain flexibility on each rider laying out his/her own plan and direction to ride and features to see. We aren't going to dictate a turn by turn route but rather point out interesting things that each rider can choose to explore and end up at the same place for food and fun at the end of the day. This is Adventure Riding after all. Isn't that some of the fun? Exploring "your way"? As for camping Friday night, there is a number of camp spots in Beaumont, Santa Fe Lake in Augusta, and heck, you're welcome to come to my humble place and grab one of the several beds or camp by my pond if you'd like! Love to have several of you there! What WON'T happen is me publicizing the coordinates for the camp where we'll be staying Saturday night. It is a remote and private facility that is locked and won't be available until Sat. Volunteers will open it up and supervise the guests on Sat/Sunday. Like I said early riders are welcome to camp at my home in the country on Thursday or Friday evenings. I't a few miles from the starting point in Augusta.Next item; Yes, sign-in officially begins at 8:00 (May 1) but I know some may arrive before then and we'll be glad to get you get registered prior to that once we are all set up; and sign-in will close at 10:00ish to allow those volunteers to fulfill their other numerous responsibilites. Yes we actually CAN have the riders meeting at 9:00am to allow those that want to go ahead and start their day without being held hostage until after 10:00 BUT, I don't want to preclude any riders that show up later to not participate because they might have slept in due to jet lag or ??? ! Yes, there are several hearty souls who are flying in and renting bikes from me! I'll have an abreviated riders briefing later if necessary. Finally The 3 promoters of this event (I'm one) are funding this out of OUR pockets and we are NOT charging a fee! Got it? We haven't required a ride fee and are asking for donations only. We stand to lose more money than we'll make and are committed to donate any proceeds to F-22. We want to have a raw-edged fun ride weekend with the focus on fun! We have never done this before so there may be some glitches that we are committed to work through even if it's on the fly. Hope this clears the confusion and we see you in Augusta!

I grew up in the Flint Hills, still live here.

This is a great time to come see them, especially if you have never been here before. Most of the pastures have been burned off and the new grass is coming up. I never get tired of seeing this. It's like riding in a John Ford Western.

I have made a 190 mile pavement track that goes thru Beaumont. 177 is a scenic highway but all of it is in the Flint Hills. Even has some of the Santa Fe Trail on it and it is 200 years old this year.

This will make you a good base track to give you a overall look at the Flint Hills.

I won't make it down, at least not to do much riding. I have a couple of hard days before Saturday.
