I'm new to this forum and I love reading these threads. I just bought a all original 1984 IT490 ( I should say stole ) $450.00. It wouldn't start no compression, Pulled head and jug standard piston with worn rings. No scoring in the cylinder so having checked for roundness. From reading here I'm putting Boyesen power reeds in on assembly. My only problem now is I need a kick stand mine is long gone and I'm to short to kickstart the bike without standing on the peg or a milk crate, and I think I'll look real odd carrying milk crate around on the back in the woods. So I can't buy a new one and there is one on ebay but I thought I'd try here first, Does anyone here have one that they would sell at a reasonable price? If so you can email me eveready56@outlook.com . Thanks again for the great thread and the Husky thread too.

    Barn Fresh! :D

    Have fun!

I'd take on an 80's YZ or IT 250 for $100 bucks.

I tore the top end down and the piston and rings were done, cylinder was still in good shape I had it measured and honed bought standard piston and rings but when I started to put it together I noticed a little oil in the crank case. Would that be bad crank seal? And if so do I have to split the cases to replace? I downloaded a service manual but it doesn't help much. Can anyone here give me some advice on this.

Shouldn't there be a lot of oil in the crank case. ??.

In the gearbox and clutch yes, but not in the crank I believe.

If it's 2-stroke premix oil, it's probably normal.

[IMG] I had a IT 175 as a boy and missed it so I had been looking for one of these.I found an old 465 for $100 that had been sitting in a field for many years and was in a bad way.As happened with most of these old big bore 2 strokes, someone bought it, rode it, wrecked it and then left it alone for a very long time as evidenced by the bent rear hoop. After I got it home, it fired right up after I cleaned the carb and sounded like it had very few hours on it.
I spent quite a bit of time tearing it down for a total restoration as the clutch actuator area had some damage from a tossed chain and the kick start return spring had sheared,I decided to use the cases from the 1985 YZ 490.
It took a bit of work to sort out some differences in the clutch but was all coming together well.I ported the jug a bit, dropped in a new wiseco and replaced the reeds for some boyesens.I put in new clutch discs and repainted the engine in some epoxy black that was a very close match to the factory. It had the ugliest tank on it I had ever seen, some old yellow desert bajha tank that must hold 5 gallons. So I started looking for more
parts. After about a year of scouring I found one in much better shape .

Looks like it might be a old Preston Petty tank from the late. 70's..

I rebuilt the top end on my 84 IT490. My expansion chamber is really beat up and does not line up with exhaust port, the PO had it sealed with red silicone. I've been looking for used pipe without luck. My question is will a 83 YZ490 pipe fit my bike? I know the 84 YZ pipe runs up right side of the bike and would cause a lot of change. If anyone can give me some advice on what fits what I would greatly app. it.

I asked the same question over on the IT forum and was told yes, but mine is a 83 IT490.
