We went and played in Kentucky on Labor Day Weekend 2019. Here's some videos of what I think was Hard 1A(feel free to correct me I'm wrong). What a fun place to ride!

Anyone know if the GPX file is currently being updated? I've downloaded it 4 times in the past hour and it's been different twice now. at first it was missing Main 2 & 3 and, now it has everything but some of it twice.

Nope, I just checked it and it's all there. Make sure that you have "show all tracks" turned on your device.

Hey Jeff, we're riding the KAT in early Oct, starting in Middlesboro KY and riding the route clockwise. The plan is to ride all the hard sections and ride until we either run out of days off or we complete the route whichever comes first. I'm wondering if any of the hard sections are impassible from a clockwise direction? (We're reasonably competent riders on a WR250R, a KTM 450, and a DRZ400). Are there any 'gotchas' that we should know about beforehand? Thanks!

Oh no, it's all rideable in either direction. The only thing that can really make it impassible is creek crossings after a lot of rain. Make sure everyone runs real knobby tires.

Does anyone live in the Slade area that would be willing to let me leave a truck and or trailer at you place for along weekend? We're coming down with two to three bikes on a trailer from Indianapolis. We might leave both the truck and trailer but, a friend kinda wants to drive the dusty roads and camp with us. If he comes then we would just leave the trailer. We're looking at Thursday, October 24th - Sunday, October 27th.

So they would let me leave a trailer in the parking lot and it would be safe? We wouldn't be staying at the hotel or even in the area.

The only road closed that I know of is just a 10th of a mile west of Turkeyfoot campground, if you're going to take the hard section then you'll bypass it anyway. If not it's a pretty easy work around.

A small group of us were out over labor day weekend, and met 2 guys on XRs and 1 guy on a WR at deep creek 2. I shot a video of one of the XRs falling over, and was asked to post it here. Not a great video, but here it is. I didn't catch their names, but I hope they enjoy it!

Bad line choice, 20 yards down stream it's much shallower and less rocky.

Five of us are starting out in a couple of weeks. I put together an approximate schedule but I have no idea how many miles we can realistically do in a day so this is just a swag at best. We intend to do all of the hard sections and will be starting in Middlesboro and riding in a clockwise direction because most of the technical trail appears to be in the western half and this way we can bail out at Jackson if we run out of time. To get the mileages shown below I tried to compare the scale of miles on the gpx map on Base Camp with the road miles on Google Maps then inflated the trail miles to account for all the twists and turns. Basically it looks like we can do the whole loop in 6.5 days if we can maintain 100 to 130 miles a day. I'm a little concerned that the size of the group is going to slow us down so we might end up splitting into fast and slow groups. I'm throwing this out here in hopes that someone who has ridden the KAT can post here with the actual mileage and also whether I need to adjust my expectations up or down for how many miles we can reasonably do in a day.

    Thanks!

Middlesboro to Jellico is going to be way to short.

    I'd do Middlesboro to Stearns.

Stearns to Livingston then ride south on Hwy 25 or I-75 about 15 miles to London for a hotel as there are no hotels in Livingston.

    Livingston to Slade

Slade to Matewan, call ahead to Hatfield McCoy Inn to book a room

    Matewan to Harlan

    Harlan to Middlesboro

Wondering the same, another inmate and I plan to start in Appalachia Oct. 13th going counter clockwise with Hard secs. Will try to make Matewan, Jackson, Beattyville, London, Williamsburg, and Jellico each night hopefully.
