Good call. My wife ran pro taper atv bars on hers. @Sue926 , if you want the bars (they're narrowed for woods use), let me know and you can have them. She graduated to a FE 250 with fatbars.
Gosh the pics are huge and not a fan of putting up a poster of myself but I'm not getting any younger..LOL...here is me on a 140G...there's an L behind me. I again am 5'9" but I've seen so many different comments concerning being to tall for this bike and I guess it does depend on inseam maybe overall weight a bit as well. So many shorter folks ride these at 5'3"...5'4" and say THEY are cramped so.......this pic LOOKS ok but I am not sure that I am totally putting all my weight on the bike here. I AM going to get to my local dealer who told me they will have this G built and ON the floor for me to check out more. Thanks for all the advice I will definitely use it (tall seat etc.)
So I will humble myself even more and post the only other pic I have and at least it is much less harsh as an attached file.....excuse the lovely expression (this is about the BIKE here)
The problem won't be so much your butt to the ground as much as your butt to the pegs. Put your foot on the peg and note your knee bend. It will be pretty sharp. A tall seat will help.
You are kinda sitting back on the seat in those pics too versus a normal riding position...stock bars will feel a bit cramped too. You are welcome to those ATV bars I offered earlier if you decide on the G.
You're right.....I don't get how the tall guys (way taller and heavier than me ) enjoy these bikes....lol Well, I will have to make a definitive decision soon. My local shop guy said he is 6'1' and it is a decent fit for him....I know I need to shut up and get over to the Kawie shop.
I was noticing this as well....If I was where I needed to be would be even lower : ( Thank you again for the offer and will let you know!!
I bet she will love a standard tire size etc with the 140G! Looks like hare scrambles? It IS addicting!!
That was last year. She put 90+ hrs on the 140G and loved it. We race a mix of Enduros & Hare Scrambles with a preference for Enduros. This year she upgraded to a FE 250 which we lowered 2" and she loves it. I am only giving you her experience because you're 2" taller than her and I feel she was on the tall side for the 140G. Here is a pic of her racing the national enduro in your home state on her new bike last month:
Great pic! I did research some positive things about the Husky....and I guess it depends on inseam...I may be more torso and long waisted so to speak. I need to check the specs on the FE 250 again but did read they were the lighter of the 4t's....and if you needed to lower it a bit seat height may be great for me. I may just have to do the 140G then move up as well!! We race the FTR series btw...which includes hare scrambles and enduros throughout the lower 2/3 of the state for the most part. Also we get a GNCC once a year here locally. My husband races bikes/quads and I have only raced quads so FAR. I didn't start riding til my late 40's...it is probably not the smartest idea to learn at my age but YOLO and unfortunately, I have been bitten by the bug....LOL
I can see from your pics that you have a longer torso compared to my wife which means you probably have a similar inseam. The 140G is a great stepping stone to a full size bike for a newer rider. My wife is 43 and she just started riding a dirt bike at all a little under 2 years ago. She was also coming off a quad, but not racing. Now she is a full-on race-tard like myself. It would be nice if you could get a trail ride in on a 140G before purchasing. Even any 140 model would give you an idea of the cockpit size (bars-seat-pegs) and if you feel it will work for you. Standing was her biggest challenge on the 140G.
I am almost 6'5" and last week took my wifes 140G for a spin down the road and back to dry it off after a post-ride hose off. My knees were up at my chin - prob looked like a circus bear riding a tricycle.
To me (for the wifey) the short seat to pegs on the 140g is a worthwhile trade off for the lightweight and the low seat height while still having excellent ground clearance for enduro type stuff. Any other bike lowered seems to bottoms out on every log crossing or rock. Im 6'1ish 220 lbs and with 2" rox risers once I'm standing up its feels pretty normal. The transition to standing is what takes the extra effort but like i said it a good trade off. If you're riding aggressively you will be standing most times anyways. This little bike surprises me on how easy it is to make it go. A few different times when others where struggling to make a play hill on full size enduros the wife handed me her bike and said " Here hun, take my bike up it!" She seems content just knowing her bike can make it without actually trying it for herself LOL.
Hi Sue, I’m 5’7, 120#’s, with 33” inseam and have a 140G(2017): the 1st thing a friend of my hubby remarked on, after seeing me on the bike right off the dealer’s lot, was to roll the front bars forward or get risers. The biggest selling point for myself was SEAT HEIGHT and BIKE WEIGHT! -the price tag is hard to beat too; when I’m done riding this I can hand it down to my son or sell. I started riding about 4 years ago on an XR100- totally looked like a circus bear on a tricycle as Trike described beautifully. A few falls and a flight over the handle bars strengthened my need for a taller machine. You fit the bike great in the pic you shared. It’s the mods that will connect your measurements: handle bar ht, seat ht, peg/shifter fit, etc. The 140G is a great pick and you will for sure have a good time riding!
This is a great thread. I just bought a used KLX140L, mainly for my wife to have something to ride. About 12 years ago she had a Yamaha TTR125L, which she really liked. I highly doubt she will do more than have fun on some easy trails at a spot where we have permission to ride. My actual question. Except for the wheels/suspension, is everything else exactly the same between the KLX140G and KLX140L?
Not exactly. The swingarm is longer and the subframe is different. Wheelbase is 52.4 vs 50.6 for the L model. The rest of the bike is pretty similar, but the suspension is a little taller and the ground clearance and seat heights are taller.
