Yes. It sat in the corner of the garage most of the summer not being ridden so I thought about selling it but now I have been riding it the last few weeks I have changed my mind and now find myself shopping for new pipes the Jolly Motos are but spendy !
My current two-stroker. Owned it since 1990. I have owned many RZ350’s and RDLC’s over the years. I once bought a running RDLC for $100. Guy had just did a light low side, scared himself and sold it within 2 hours of his crash. Glad I had access to a trailer. It cost about $50 in a lever, mirror and a new handle bar and I was riding. Now there prices are shocking. The RZ really responds to some basic tuning quite well. Mild porting, shave the head, pipes and jetting, you would have a 750 killer back in the day.

1988 VFR400R unmolested original condition recently imported from Japan.
Can't say for sure but I almost inked a trade for possibly this bike or an identical one for my TZ125 about 3 months ago. Decided to pass and keep the TZ. He was from VA. Figured it was too exotic and all parts would have to be sourced from overseas. Instead I found a VF500F. Not in the same class but.........it will be fun regardless. Has a few warts but it is all there. Even has a centerstand.
For VFR fun I have this anyway.......
A friend of mine calls it a unicorn. Fitted with a CBR900 front end, Brembo masters, full Hindle exhaust, braced swingarm, and other goodies. Had been sitting for a number of years when I stumbled in to it. Needed some attention but in exceptional condition in all respects and a fantastic ride.
VFR700/750, the sport bike that can sport tour with the best of them and a sport tourer that can cut corners close to the best of them!
That kind of bike truly was a unicorn in its time. Seems when they bumped them up in displacement and the V-tec stuff they fell off the pedestal. Lost the light weight simplicity that made them what they were from 1986-1997.
Many many great sportbikes evolved out the 70's and 80's.
Recently parted ways with a very nice gen 5 (2000 model year). Great bike but once the 86 entered my life the overall bulk and complexity of the gen 5 lost it's appeal. The 86 was much easier to service much like the VF750F I also have. I generally run it without the side fairings as I drain the carbs after each outing. Easy to do with the VF series too. The VFR wins in the melody of the exhaust tone over the VF. Though the 500 needs work I really like the package. Look fwd to sorting it out.

I see that you have the VFR in the fastest color, like me.
I very rarely use the seat cowl. I figure it will be worth a good price at some point in the future.
I did have.......
Had to make room in the stable so the gen 5 left. Followed up with buyer about two weeks later. Asked him what he thought of it, his reply was "Awesome", they are. But for me my 86 is superb and I prefer this gen of VFR's especially this one with the mods it has. Perhaps not as refined as the gen 5 but it feels smaller and more responsive; more like a sportbike, it's no contest. I also prefer the "std" swingarm configuration. Also have an 87 VFR700 working it's way through rehab.....it has a year or so to go.

Hard to say what I have at this point. It runs but I have found things that contradict what I would of expected from the way the PO spoke. There is enough to work with. For those of us that put forth the effort to restore these things it is amazing what some people do; we have all been there.
I bought one of these in 1984 - fast as hell but didn't handle real well
Basics have been resolved, more to do. No intent to make it a museum piece, just a rider.

Legit question here. What was the reasoning as to why they moved away from the smaller wheels on sportbikes and settled on 17's? If I've heard why in the past I don't remember which is entirely possible.

Have owned my FZR1000 for well over 30 years now.
This bike took me down hard in the rain back in the mid 90's and I still have metal in me from that crash.....bike came out of it much better than me.
So I set it up for drag racing for a few years to keep the speed off the street....
Then it sat for untold years collecting dust ......
.....until I cleaned it up and put it back on the street again.
And it still pulls like a freight train...

I’m of the opinion the bike was intended to be a heartbreaker in the time it lived.
In my zip code it was. Everyone looked at the 750cc and said LMAO.

Back road 1320’s taught lots of folks there _IS_ an alternative for displacement. At the time it was all about displacement.
One of my fondest memories is leaving the local bike bar (not drunk) and some joker with something like a sporty pulls up talking typical jap bike shit at me while lm gearing up. He was not local.
Me> let’s go dude.
Him> okay but I only race for money.
Immediately 3 guys in the bike parking area (locals) walk up and hand me money in front of this joker.
He dismounted and went inside without another word. Everyone in the bike parking was lol.
I was seething...
IT WAS FREE BEER MONEY and they screwed it up!
