After seeing these photos and reading some (NOT ALL, because not all adv riders are included in this summary),
There are a LOT of ADVENture whiners out there... "my seat is too hard",
"my back hurts" "Too much wind noise" "I can't reach the GPS cuz I'm so damn FAT"...
After seeing these pictures... those who whine about their BMW should hang their head in SHAME. SHUT THE HELL up and ride.
Be greatful you don't have to ride in an era where the only comfort a rider had was the springs under the seat cushion...

    oh yeah...
    one more thing...
    Get a haircut Fitz

I you feel like you're the man, nothing better than a cup of humility in the morning!

I met a guy in Brazil that crossed the Trans Amazon highway on a Harley fitted with a jeep tire on the rear wheel!!!

    True adventure spirit is timeless.

    Thanks for sharing this pics.

Thought I'd share this favorite family photo - mom and dad honeymooning on a '49 Matchless on the Gaspe Penninsula.

Anyone interested in San Francisco motorcycle history should stop by the San Francisco Motorcycle Club, once a week meetings are held on Thursday evening at 8:30pm. Our clubhouse is located on Folsom at 18th St.(Mission District). You will see a bunch of bikes littering the sidewalk.
The SFMC was established in 1904 and has been active since then. The current clubhouse opened its doors in 1948.
LOTS of pictures going straight back to 1904 line the clubhouse walls.
Lots of great old pictures of members, racing, hillclimbs etc.
Think Dudley Perkins, Hap Jones, the grand opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937, Tanforan Race Track, etc.

Guests are welcome to sit in on a meeting and check out the clubhouse.

My Mother's Dad on the rig at far right. Anchorage Alaska, 1920's. I expect that this was short lived. I never heard about it.
I am the only gearhead in the family.
Nice to see this thread come up again. Another site posted a link.

Speaking of some of those old hillclimb pics, here are some great ones from the 1922 Hillclimb at Carnegie. Seriously, what could go wrong when you wrap a chain around your tire and give 'er hell in a vain attempt to get to the top of the hill...without ANY protective gear? I ride those hills on my modern[ish] Husky and some are hard as hell to get up.

Dude! Thank you for starting it 2+ years ago. Glad to see it come back around. Maybe more old pix will show up. Cool!
Yeah, throw that sucker up the hill!
Check out the fine footgear in the next pic. Most everybody in the pix also seems to favor that style of helmet.
For me, pix 3 & 4 tell it like is/was. Look at those model T's packed in there! Steeep hill. Flippin 'em over backwards. Man who ain't done that. Good stuff.

Stomp- first thing I thought after seeing these was "where did he get these?"
Several pix may be the same guy. Hard to tell. White shirt, black sleeves, the popular, perhaps, mandated 'helmet' for this event. : )
Made me think they could be old family pix. Family friends? Whatever--
Somebody was a good photog & caught the action. With a camera that is same vintage as the bikes.
Any more info, or better, more pix?
    Where is Carnegie?
    Thanks guys.
