    :fitz Because I wanna!

In all seriousness; because I like keeping track of the metrics and watching the trends.

Shoe situation sorted! Went with New Balance 910v3 after visiting a New Balance store and trying on a number of pair.

Said I'd never marathon again. Woke up feeling good. Had a moment of weakness. Entered the lottery. Might be the 1st time I've "won" anything. 26.2 in the future. Have a while yet. No training til spring. Will use the thread for inspiration.

I'll be doing the Chicago marathon in 2017. I figured I should get one out of the way first before doing a long course tri.

Nope... somewhere between baby-shit and flourescent... like those shoes with a yellow-ish pearl undercoat.

Sweet thread. I'm planning on entering my first marathon distance race in 2017 as well. I've trained up for a marathon and ran the distance but never did a race. Hope to change that next year with the Big Horn Trail 50k ... hopefully I'll get in. I want the 50k because I figure if I run one marathon it's got to be an 'ultra'.
If anybody is interested check out the elevation profile for the 50k ... just have to get to mile 19 :deal
Speaking of shoes anybody tried Altras? THE runner dude I know highly recommends and I'm due.

Probably not a good idea to go all in with zero drop shoes if you're used to more traditional style shoes. A lot of people like the Altras, send like the main complaint is expensive shoes not holding up for enough miles.

I'm visiting my mom up in Bellingham Washington, and the wife and I got out for a very nice 8 mile run today while our 4 year old played with grandma. I wasn't quite sure what to wear for running in the low 20s, but I got it right, was comfortable the whole run. My skin temp was pretty icy when we got back IMG_20161217_123658530.jpg IMG_20161217_121130818.jpg

Yeah I have been reading that they need relatively frequent replacement.

I'm pretty close to you. I'm 44 and have a problem in a half of 1:52. Don't remember my 5 and 10k bests, but I know the 10k is just under 50.

I've been running for 9 to 10 years after realizing that muscle mass wasn't the best fit for long term heart health. I'm not swift, but do my best to keep up with my wife.

The arrival of a second child has curtailed my riding and running among other things. I know that my riding is better when I'm in good shape (not to mention how the gear fits...).

I'm just trying to get about 20 miles per week in the hopes to stem my rising waistline.

Don't give up. The healthy lifestyle is contagious. My girls (early 20's) have become much healthier now following my lead. A box of cookies will sit in the pantry for months. Apples and bananas won't last the week.

There is no way I can't quit now. :lift

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas. :beer

I probably won't again. Wife's trying to talk me into running one with her. Back surgery 10 years ago, and the doc said cut out the long-distance stuff.
Last one I ran was in 1993 ( I've run 7 ) at 39 years old. It was the first marathon I ever ran with both my brothers. We finished within a minute of each other, and all qualified for Boston. Should have gone to Boston, as it would have been the first time for three brothers to qualify for the same race.
    Marathon PR=3:04:15
    5 mile PR=29:27
    5k PR=17:57

At 62, I just run for fun and fitness.

Today, I ran 14km for charity.
I never ran this distance before. Normally it's 8km. If I run more, I have troubles with the knees. But for once...
    Man, I don't like running!!!

I don't like swimming! Two days at the pool reminded me how much.
